A squealing from the rear of the truck told me it was time for brakes. I did the front a little while ago and now the rears are toast as well. I installed new rotors, pads, calipers, and the stainless Slee lines from my kit.

You could say I got my money's worth out of these pads.

Great looking truck with well done mods.

The LX is going to take some time away from DD duty the next few months while I try out a possible replacement I bought this past weekend for the growing family. I also need to do a timing belt and new steering rack bushings which are on my shelf waiting to go in.

2004 Excursion 6.0. Low mile, rust free and damn clean inside and out. The 6.0 is healthy and is bulletproofed minus studs which are going to happen in the near future. I haven't 100% decided if the Ex will replace the LX or not but time will tell. I love my LX and have had it longer than any other vehicle I've ever owned and don't want to see it go but it is getting too small with another kid on the way.

Congrats on your new baby, and your new baby on the way. Keep your LX. The Expedition will be great for family hauling and mall crawling but you will miss the capability of your LX. My girls love climbing into “the Beast” for adventures.

The 60 is still the wheeling truck. Honestly, my LX never really had any trail time, a couple days on really easy trails just for fun as it's mainly my DD and I always had the 60 for trails. My limitation is space. I shouldn't keep both long term as it really crowds the driveway but I'm scheming to see if I can keep both as I do love my LX. I've had it 8.5 years and put about 110k miles on it under my ownership which says a lot considering the longest vehicle I'd had prior was 2.5 years. Time will tell what shakes out between the Ex and LX.

Finished my second timing belt I've done on this truck under my ownership. Parts list used is on page 11 of this thread I think. The belt on there has been on there for about exactly 90k miles as the last one was done at 183k. She's now at 273k and ready for another 90k.

Parts set out ready to start

Old belt looked good after 90k.

Specialty cam seal driver tool. I also used this to drive my front diff seals. I honestly use this more for driving seals than for beers haha!

My helicoil repair on the oil pump from 7.5 years ago still perfect!

Went with some OEM Denso brass heater T's instead of plastic this time around, all new hoses and clamps

Back together! Just need to fill and burp the cooling system tomorrow and she'll be good to go.

Another job done during the timing belt was the rack bushings. Mine were completely shot with a ton of lateral movement. I went with Poly SuperPro SPF2987K here.

Passenger side was cake, tons of room to work and easy to get at the OEM bushings. The driver side was more of a challenge given there's no space. I ended up pulling the oil filter housing to get some more space which I'd argue is necessary to get this done. Ended up replacing some of the oil cooler lines while it was off. I ended up punching the center bushings out since they were basically detached anyways and then used a mix of various sized chisels and pry bars to work the sleeves out. The wall is really thin on the sleeves so I tried using an air hammer but didn't have much luck. Took about 2.5 hours all said and done with a good portion of that time spent findings ways to wedge the rack forwards to gain more access.

Victory!

Nearly 10 years, quite the journey. Are you documenting work on the Excursion somewhere?
^^ You're buying the 100? (Whoever the guy is) is a lucky guy, it's a primo truck.

I've owned a lot of vehicles in my driving career thus far. The longest tenure besides this Lexus has been my FJ60 at 3.5 years so this has really been a special truck to me and I've truly loved owning it. It was my first foray into the Toyota/LC world and introduced me to some really close friends, a great community, and led me to buying my FJ60. I've been really hesitant to come to the conclusion that I can't keep both trucks given the space I have and I don't want it to just sit. Sadly it's just time for something larger. I do have right of first refusal if my buddy decides to part with it down the road.

I will make a thread somewhere on a Ford forum somewhere I'm sure or maybe in my ONSC clubhouse forum here. Collecting parts now to finish bulletproofing it and making it mine (KDD o-ringed heads, studs, MBRP stainless 4" exhaust, etc...).

No, he isn't. I don't think my buddy even has a Mud account...yet.
