HJ61 - 12ht question

I could be wrong, but I thought the MT versions used a cushioning device on the throttle cable at the IP to reduce the tendency to jerk you around when running over a pin, and AT versions don't need it due to the action of the converter?? Anyhow, I live with the foot jammed technique, and with practice its liveable off road.

Cheers

Pretty sire You are correct. That was my understanding but i could not think of the correct terms..

Bottom line is 12ht = happiness

What kind of cushioning device? Both my 12H-T's are 2x spring dampened. And mated to 5 speed.

Jerkin was an issue for the very first driving experience with HJ61, since then i have learned its shenanigans and sensitive throttle is not an issue anymore at all. Just pivot your ankle towards trans hump, and use hand throttle offroad.

Thats my only regret i could not find a 5spd and cable lockers... They were all autos.. only cable locker and 5spd i came across were with a 2h.. no thanks
Depends on where you are looking for one. Europe is one good candidate for 5 speed and locked HJ61's.

I own a 12ht since 12 years with 633000km I won't changed it this engine is a piece of cake so much tork and power , this trottle problem is nothing you just have to practice, change the 2 springs and you can also add one spring from a bic pencil at the bottom of the cable underneath the pedal, it help . I drive it even in Paris and make my 25000km /year. We are a family of 5 and it's quite roomy you'll love it it's an excellent cruiser.
Enjoy ;)

What is your guy's take on the 24 volt system ?? We are so use to 12 V

This is a very relative question in a world where many of us are very used to the 24v system. Either a 24/12 converter or a little more research to find 24v accessory will solve our biggest concern about our electrical needs.

Thanks, Dog_River

In the usa it just makes it a little more difficult to find what you need but its out there. I picked up tail lights from a CAT dealer.

2 battery are expensive to replace.. and running stuff from one battery is bad. So a 24v to 12v converter is great so there is a 12v source in the cab.

To me its just a minor issue that can be solved with some research.

If I had a choice I would go 12v because 24v engines in a 12v world are a PITA. However, they say in cold climates the 24v is better for starting. And the 24v models are not really a huge problem if you know how to work on them or know someone who does.
A lot of Japanese trucks are 24v so you can always use globes etc from them.

Ours is 24v
Starts better than anything I've driven,
Usually a quarter turn.
Inverters are easy.
24v stuff is pretty easy to get.
starter / alternator spares are same as dyna and coaster.
Bulbs can be got easily.
Even stuff like fan resistors can be got from Jacar.

How does it start "better" ? . I started my 12v 1hz yesterday after 10 days and it fired instantly(on a single battery). Quick starting for a diesel is all about compression and battery strength.

i think he means it turns over faster when it starts it hits harder than mike tyson.....i would not say its more reliable i can see its advantage in colder whether when you look at the power specs for the starter motor you will see why it starts with a real punch compared to 12volt.
