birfield.com has manuals that you can look at but not download.

TB: I'm just curious about a couple of things-- if you could scan a page here and there that would be great. I'd like to read what the manual says about the glow plug system, also about the hand-throttle.

Thanks Wayne.
I must be daft- can't find an hj60 owners manual on your site.

Here's what it says about the hand throttle:

Pull out the throttle botton to increase the engine speed. To return the engine to the normal idle speed, turn the button counter clockwise and push it in.

"Do not use thet throttle button when the vehicle is moving. This could result in longer stopping distances"

Im still looking for glow plug info.

The book doesnt say squat about the glow plugs other than "Turn the key to on and wait for the glow plug light to go out before you start the vehicle".

what exactly do you want to know about the glow system?

So I guess the hand throttle *should* stick when you pull it out? Mine retracts as soon as I let go, period. I was wondering if maybe the twisting action was supposed to somehow lock it. Of course, I only tried it while moving, I'll try again stopped.

Glow system: just wondering if the manual says anything about warm starting. If I've been driving for 15 minutes and the temp is at 150 or so.... then I stop for groceries, do I still need to glow for 20 seconds before starting? (keep in mind that ambient temps here are in the high 80's F)

I guess that basically I'm just looking for "here's how you drive a diesel 101"

Thanks guys!

pull the hand throttle out and take a look at it, there is a mall tab that gets bent if you just push the throttle back in with out turning it, common probelm when going from a 40 series to a 60,70 series...
check the smart glow and see if it is working BUT after 15 minutes it should not need to glow to start...check the compression
just a suggestion...
