Had a quick question about my '86 HJ60, has the 2h with 511,000 km's. I am currently remaking the rear interior panels to make some usable cargo space and had a question about some parts and hoses back there. In doing my research on here it appears these may have been left in when one of the PO's swapped a FJ62 body and kept some of the things from it.

I read in a couple threads in this section today that they may not be needed and diesel systems wouldn't have a need for the evaporation unit and hoses. Is this correct? Is there any reason to keep them attached? Do they provide any kind of venting? I looked at my new OEM diesel gas cap and it doesn't appear to be vented.

It has probably been in there for a few years at least, and the LC has been running good, so should I just leave them in place? Or should i just delete them altogether and free up a bunch of cargo space? If anyone has some advice for me I would really appreciate it. Also, if anyone has any photos they can post of their rear panel area where the filler neck is that would be helpful as well. Thanks!

Remove them only needed for the FJ62

Hi Guys, I hate to disagree, but my Canadian spec HJ60 has that same hose configuration. Never been quite sure what they are all doing, or how necessary they are, but I definitely have them, and my truck has always been an HJ60... Maybe it's a special hose system for the 1986 models!

My Hj has it all and I got pictures because I had to try to attach the right hose again when installing after painting:
Pictures show a lot of sand on top of tank so tank removal after 30 years seems preventive, like removing radiator.

That long line on the right seems to be venting in the body and should be venting under the body in a body rail (some hole in the body) just above chassis.
I throw old belts and radiator hoses in that space, stuff I never hope to use but might.

The air vent system goes from right to left and back into the frame, this way if the car is on its side fuel can not leak out, but very rusted line.
I replaced with rubber hose: 77256 TUBE, FUEL EMISSION, NO.3

Tapage is the only one in this thread who actually tested the roll over tube:  :hillbilly:

Thanks @Tapage @Dieseler @Freewheel and @hj 60, strange that some came with it and some did not. I guess I will just leave it in there since everything is running good right now. From what I have read, for a few dollars in new fuel hose from Napa I can replace and extend the hoses and move it to the right/rear side of the filler neck to fully utilize that space.

Interesting I was looking at my HJ61 which has the 12HT and it also has the evaporator not sure why it would have this system and after further researching I discovered all my BJs have the same system also.
it must have something to do with trapping vapours from escaping into the enviroment

Since I figured it wasn't hurting anything, just extended new fuel lines to the squid shaped thing and tucked it up in the right side of the filler neck. Free's up a good amount of space in there.

You really don't need it with the diesel, I never hooked mine back up when I did my 12ht swap and 0 complaints there. Diesel doesn't vaporize like gasoline..

Just reviving an old thread here. I have replaced all my fuel lines, but my emissions tube #3 was rusted away. I replaced that with a good one from an FJ60, but I'm not sure where the end is supposed to connect. See attached image from partsouq. Can anyone tell me how/where this tube terminates? Right now I have it open to air, but failing anything more concrete I might just put a filter on the end of it to keep debris out, similar to a diff breather.

Wow, was looking for the answer to same question for same rusted line and arrived here. Anyone know where 77256B terminates?
And is it possible to replace tube 77256 with a used or new OEM line, or will I have to bend this marvelous piece of spaghetti?

Line is attached to the one in the picture, next to the other 5 hoses

Ends under the cabin, so first the U, then one meter to front, then one meter to left, then one meter back to right and then in a space somewhere up, not in chassis but off course not in cabin (fumes?) but below.
no hose on the end of the metal line.
I replaced with fuel line and a filter in the end, 12 years ago and still "working"
