Hey mud peeps. I'm having a problem with my HJ60 wherein it burps some coolant on the ground after it has cooled down. I ran it up to temp yesterday, then pulled it into the garage. I watched it steadily for over a half hour, and then checked again after about an hour. Nothing on the floor. Checked again about 2 hrs after, still nothing. Then this morning, a small puddle. I just can't see where it's dripping from, but it seems to be from the water pump area. All I can see is a few drops hanging on the to crank pulley.

Anyone had anything similar? Any ideas on how to check this further without a deep dive into the front of the engine?

Thanks for any input.

Check your clamps on all your hoses. If you have the typical worm gear clamps, you can get cold water leaks over time. The hoses swell when they're hot so it seals everything, but they will shrink when cold and can develop a small leak. Re-tighten all your clamps, wipe everything down, and check again.

When the engine (any engine) is shut down, the hot metal continues to heat up the coolant but the coolant isn’t circulating through the radiator anymore. It’s affectionately referred to as Heat Soak.
So after shut down is the most heat stressful time for the cooling system. The hotter the coolant gets, the more it expands- and builds up pressure.

If your radiator cap is malfunctioning or not to spec, the coolant pressure could get higher than ideal after shutdown - causing a leak past a tired seal or gasket.

As a preventative measure — I’d replace the radiator cap with an original new Toyota cap. See if that helps.

Thanks for the replies. The rad cap, and the rad itself are brand new Toyota. All the clamps are stainless ABA clamps, and I have checked them for tightness, but I will check again. All my hoses and clamps are pretty much new since I did a 2H swap. There's probably less than 200 miles since the swap, but the coolant burping just started.

I would remove the water pump/alternator belt and then check for wiggle in the fan (indicating a water pump issue).. drops of water on the crank pulley is a classic water pump failing symptom. If the water pump hasnt been done in years - I'd absolutely go in and change it pre-emptively anyway, especially with that beautiful new radiator! If your viscous hub is original consider replacing that whilst you've go it all apart.. and do the fan shroud mod (cut it in half to make access easier in future).

PS.. beautiful engine bay, a credit to you.

Thanks, @duncanrm . I should update my photo, I've gotten things a bit cleaner since this one was taken. But back to the problem, the water pump looks to be new. It's shiny black, and must have been changed just before I purchased the donor truck. I'll do the wiggle test and report back. The viscous clutch though - that's original. I should look at changing that out.
