I can't help with specifics but make sure you are clear whether you need an internally or externally regulated alternator. If the rebuilder said the regulator has failed, that suggests the unit has an internal regulator, so be careful not to buy...

I have replaced my fusible links with Midi Fuses... some people seem to think I'm inviting a vehicle fire, but I am unconvinced that the blow characteristics of these fuses is so different from fusible wire that its going to cause a problem.

I've heard a lot of people say the Toyota clamps are better.. I use the screw clamps personally on fuel fittings.

You can sneak out the idler shaft JUST enough to get a new O Ring installed.. pull it out any further and the transfer case has to be disassembled. This wont help with your transmission issue though, its rebuild time for your transmission.

I wouldnt persist with the EDIC Motor.. you'll also need a working (and matching) Fuel Control Relay, and a suitable EDIC rod.. A simple stop cable is so much nicer and so much more maintainable.. I have images of various "Stop Cables" on 2H...

After using Timeserts for the first time, you'll never use anything else. IMHO, they are far better than Helicoil inserts.

Helicoil or timesert is fine. We have to do these fairly frequently. Good used knuckles are getting harder to find as they are popular for FJ40 disc brake conversions. Make sure you replace the bolts with new OEM Toyota as well
