Hello everyone...
I have a 1980 HJ45 from South America.
The wiring is so hacked up that it caught fire-but I managed to stop it before any serious damage was done.

My mechanic patched it up so it can run again, but it needs to be rewired. However, the mechanic said he can't figure out the wiring for a new fuse-box.
I am doing a resto-mod, so I want a modern fuse box and some other modern stuff like maybe Recaro seats, Power steering, serious sound proofing, a great sound system...

Also, I want to swap in a 1HDT/5SPeed/Split Case.

Also, a nearby college said they'd restore it: fix any rust and repaint it. I just pay materials.

My questions are:
  1. Would an FJ40 wiring harness work by just extending the wires to the brake-lights?
  2. What changes would be needed for the FJ harness so that it work with the diesel?
  3. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this truck? (I have one from a PDF but the mechanic said it isn't correct.)
  4. Anyone have an idea where to source a 1HDT/5-Speed/Split-Case?
That being said, I am thinking it would be best to have the bodywork and paint done with the existing wiring and engine, then swap in the new drive-train and harness. This would prevent the harness etc. from getting any paint on it. It would also give me time to come up with the money to buy the new drive-train.

Thanks!

If you are planning to paint your firewall or under the dash then I would recommend either pulling the cab or engine prior to paint. I would also pull the harness, and brake lines, etc. Trying to paint with all of that stuff installed can be very frustrating and often cause more work in the long run.

I have found my 72's fuse box is fine for "stock". If I wanted to add a bunch of lights, commo gear, mp3 players/speakers, charging ports, relays for electric clutches... I would add a new fuze over by the battery and keep my old one.

Maybe Coolerman has your diagram and maybe your harness, for sure wire/connectors

Search is your friend

Not sure if it matters to the fusebox but FJ40 is 12 volts but HJ40 is 24 volts. However, it may be different for South American models.

I'm gonna use the Egon DC Hub for accessories, so I guess a regular fuse box can work. I will contact Coolerman.
Thanks!
