Why is there no "oh sh*t" grab handle on the drivers side? There are to plastic pieces which I am presuming are covering holes to put one on. Is it a US safety thing?

DRTDuck, Thats very good question i myself was wondering samething for long time.
I think this car original was made of right hand drive so that grab handle ( missing ) actually for the passenger side in other region (overseas) to make it simple the Toyota decided to have the hole piece ready ( for left hand drive or right hand drive ) but this just base on my thought or other member have better thought/ idea?

geez guys, how you gonna hang on that piece when you're fighting the steering wheel in the bumps eh?

You mean.... like this? :D :D :flipoff2:

I looked at that when I pulled the dealiner IIRC the threads are there to put in the handle, just need to get one, the pllastic insets pry out

Yeah nak, that's it. Except I figured yours would be a clear abs with leds inside! :D :flipoff2:

There is no handle fitted on the driver's side (whichever side that happens to be) but BOTH roof rails have threaded holes present to fit one.

Do exercise caution when installing one in a suspended headliner version 80 (91-94) as you can poke holes in the thousand-dollar headliner in the wrong place....:whoops:

Damn dude, LMAO.... fawker. totally got me on that one... tell you what, get 20 people together who all want clear grab handles and I'll make it happen for you.

I had an epiphany this past weekend, it's funny you posted this now. Had my 3rd row grab handle off, then realized everything on that side of the truck is the exact same. So it's a direct swap, 5 minutes.. just pry off the plastic things with a screwdriver they'll come right out.

I'm still laughing about the clear abs comment..

Eric,

You *really* need to get your butt out on the trail so you have an understanding of what all these gadgets are used for.

The DS grab handle isn't intended for the driver, it is intended for the external passengers on off-camber trails.

Something like this.... :D

and this....

BTW, that cool, calm, collected driver is C-Dan.

FWIW, I ordered an extra grab bar from CDAN, very reasonable price, very easy install, very good to give to those external passengers to hold onto!!! Be warned - when external passengers grab hold of a turboed 80, they often get that "Spies Like Us" face warp ... kinda funny around the campfire though after a long day of snow running!!! :flipoff2:

I don't have any little round plastic things....

sounds like a personal problem!!

Ok sorry- you asked about 95-97 so I thought you had one.. but you don't. I think your headliner goes all the way down the pillars, right? 95-97's have a separate ceiling section, then separate strips for the pillars, and also little plastic things where the DS grab handle could go.

Talk to Dan again before taking the plunge, it sounds like the threaded inserts are there but you need to be damn sure you poke the hole in the right place. :)

Yeah, I figured as much, I was just wondering what kind of headliners you guys had. Is the seperate ceiling panel still stretched fabric like the older ones, or is it a more traditional headliner with the padded material glued to a backer board?
