Proud new owner of a 1996 Fzj80 with the 4.5. Brought it up to baseline this past week and am trying to figure out one last maintenance issue, high oil pressure. I have read some threads about this and am between relief valves and sender. The relief valves (singular or plural?) seem to be hard to find. Any thoughts? It isles at about 3/4 and at 2000 rpm is at 7/8 on the gauge. My oil light is on but I think this is unrelated and plan to get my indicator worked on next oil change (just changed oil Friday). Running Pennzoil high mileage 10w-30. Will probably swing to rotella as I live in the southeast.

The gauge is not known for accuracy but looks normal to me based upon the viscosity of the oil.

How many quarts of oil did you put in? The light usually indicates low oil level.

8 1/2 quarts, I think the sensor is probably messed up. So everyone is saying this high of an oil pressure at idle is pretty normal?

No, we're saying your gauge may not be accurate. If it is accurate, you're golden. If not, your engine is not junk and making noise, so you're OK.

For reference, my oil pressure gauge reads higher than that. I believe it to be inaccurate and am in the process of gathering parts to set up a separate mechanical gauge to verify pressure.

Appreciate the input. I may be going the same direction with another way to read the pressure. Any chance a new sender might fix this? Or is it something internal to the actual gauge in your experience? For note: I am having no issues with how the truck is running. Runs real smooth.

There's a thread on here about how to calibrate it and go through that. I still don't trust electronic gauges. I'm going with a mechanical gauge.

It's not usually the sender, it's usually the gauge, but you could try it if you want to spend the money.

Did you go ahead with this BILT?
