I'm doing a search now to see if I can find the problem. I got all toyota belts on last week. Since, I took it off roading once through a little bit of water and up and down dirt hills etc. The belts sound like they're running high--a high pitch noise. When I'm higher mph I can't notice it, whether its bc all the other noises have drowned the high pitch noise out or it has gone away I cant tell. Is this high pitch noise relevant to the idler pulley? anything else it could be??

wonders if they gave you the right belts...

They are V groove, yes? No teeth on the belt, right?

no teeth on belt, correct. Don't know what V groove is

I've located the noise ( a high pitch noise that comes with acceleration) to not the belts but just behind them. One of the pulleys, hopefully just an idler bearing but apparently theres a chance it could be from the alternator pulley. Have any of you any experience with such a high pitch noise coming from the alternator or idler bearing???

it was a bearing in the AC compressor... took off AC belt no more noise

Could also be the AC idler pulley. Hopefully save you replacing the AC comp as the idler is a lot less expensive. Oh, and you can replace the sealed bearing in that idler. Toyota says that it is an unserviceable part, but it is!:D

I just had the same problem with mine and it "appears" to be the AC idler pulley. My new one comes in tomorrow so I will know more then.

Yep, I replaced the AC idler pulley and she is quiet as a mouse. That is a relief!

Taking off the AC belt did the job for eliminating the noise. Was that the same situation with yours?

That was my first step to isolate the noise. I almost had myself convinced it was the clutch bearing until I laid there spinning it and then put the belt over the AC clutch pulley only and was hanging on the belt rotating it and it seemed fine to me. The pulley I took off had the pulley spacer (behind the pulley) that goes over the shaft seized to the shaft and the bearing was really bad to the point it had at least 1/8" movement from front to rear of the vehicle.
