Hi all,

I noticed after getting my fuel injectors cleaned at a local Toyota Dealer, that I am idling at 1500 rpm instead of 1000 rpm.

A local shop that did my tune up, suggested that I needed a thermostat, as my truck is running cooler, and that is what is causing my truck to run at 1500 rpm at idle.

This truck came from Indiana, so I do not think it came with a thermostat.

Any ideas, of this was the correct information, and how much are thermostats.

My dad suggests that I use or get a 160 deg thermostat as I live in Ft Lauderdale, Fl.

Thanks,

Mark

That's nuts. Every engine has a thermostat in it. At least it's supposed to.

Take your VIN down to the local dealership, have them get you the proper one, install it.

Then check the codes on the computer, see what it tells you.

Then turn down the idle speed screw on the throttle body.

Thanks,

I thought it was wierd that the thermostat issue would cause me to idle higher.

I am going to source a thermostat tomorrow, and check with the dealer to see what they would recommend for my neck of the woods.

I probably do need to flush the radiator, but I have been slowly but surely getting all of the fluids changed.

I got the truck in late August, and have changed the oil, rear diff, transmission, replaced both headlights, got a tune up, new spark plugs, wires and distributor cap.

I will be finishing the platform, and replace both camper shell struts within the next two weeks.

The next acquisitions will be a rear bumper with tire carrier, new shocks, radio with speakers, install the reupholstered tercel seats to replace the bench seat, hardwire the CB into the electrical system, and get bigger tires.

I will also stock up on a new clutch, and top end just in case! I will put an add a leaf system to get a little bit more room so I can add an auxillary fuel tank and lift kit to address that.

Thanks again,

mark
