I'm not sure about an HID conversion, but unless it's a true reflector HID conversion, not simply a bulb swap + inverter, then I wouldn't bother. For one, since an SUV sits much higher than a sedan, you will drive them nuts when you are behind them and blind them.

Maybe look at getting the LX570's headlight unit and swapping them. May require some custom fab work, not too sure.

If you insist of getting a simple projector setup, look at HID Xenon Conversion Kits - Xetronic Digital.

These are some of the best on the market and are digital. Just note that you loose high-beam functionality.

These HID Xenon Conversion Kits - Xetronic are not digital, but you can add a Xenon hi/low mod.

Personally, don't do it. It really isn't worth it other than for looks at the sacrifice of annoying the hell out of other vehicles.

X2. I would much rather work on getting a bull bar or roof rack with HID lights then replacing the stock ones.

The rear tail lights are partially LED and the turning signal is regular bulb.

JBHORNE and DTT , thanks for the replies....so the LC 200 has partial LED,s meaning tail brake and tail light then , turn sig beeing regular bulb . (by the way is the turn sig red or orange?)
sure a pair of external HID units make sense, even the LX570 does not have HID,s very strange since the cadillac escalades range rovers and touaregs have them just to name a few high end vehicles.!!
DTT that bull bar is impressive and the install very clean!!!
Erick.

Very interesting. I really thought the LX570 did have HID's. Hmm....In fact, I could swear I read that on the '08s there were, but I don't see it on Lexus' site. I don't have any time right now, but I'd like to verify that. Hmm...

Will check on LX570 HID

Does the North American Spec (NAS) LC for 08 and 09 have HID?
My 09 Gulf Spec VXR has it only on high beam (*mot, yes I'm positive).

I had a friend's stock 2001 BMW 333i with Sport Package for a few months in the States, and it had HID on low beam, and the regular halogen in addition on high beam. The visibility created while driving with HID was amazing, and it made sense to me to have that setup.

Is there a way to switch the order in which the lights are used, HID on low beam, plus Halogen on high beam? Just would like the option, plus flicking the HIDs off and on every time you pass an oncoming vehicle seems like it might shorten their life... But thinking about it, there are no projectors like the LX570, so the light pattern would not be tightly controlled. Therefore, casting all that nice bright light about is sure to irk some drivers.

The configuration of the lights are also something to consider. The low beam is on the corner, with the high beam HID on the inside.

Anyone who has also contemplated this please give some feedback.

UPDATE EDIT: Forgot to add that my Gulf Spec model has a headlight level adjust switch on the dashboard (which could make switching the HID to low beam more feasible). All the LX570s I've seen in the Gulf area have HID, only on high beam like the LC.

That is just odd!
Usually they use HID's on low and halogens on high.
Not to insult you, but are you sure about that?

If the reflector was designed for HID, a good multi-reflector design should be adequate to handle the light output of HID (Many vehicles, at least in Japan, have HID's from the factory with HID's, FWIW).

That's the way most cars that I've seen are (I might have seen only one US vehicle (Caddy?) that had it the other way around.)

OK, so I'm not being very helpful! SUE ME!!! ;)

All Lexus suvs (not including the RX) use projector and are not HID. I still can not understand Toyota's mentality on refusing to include HIDs for such an expensive SUV. Everything from Range Rovers, Infiniti QX (or whatever it is) to the cross-over Murata is coming with HIDs.

That's plain nuts!

Mitch,
Struth mate, I thought you enjoyed adding all the razle dazzle good gear on your beast. Ha ha.

Seriously though, I have installed 55 watt HIDs in my IPF 940 driving lights. The difference on high beam is outstanding.

I do....I do....

Where did you put the ballast box?

How about some pics slick!!

I installed the ballasts in behind the ARB bar, on the angled edge. The Aussie number plate covers all but 4 stainless bolts. Will post pics tomorrow. Costs to purchase Hid kit and install was $87.00 AUD.
