Hi and winch question?!

Hi there everyone. I am new to the forum and have been reading for awhile and I think that this is a great place. My name is Daniel and I love cruisers. I got mine last year. I have a good bit of mods but would like to ask yall a question on the winch that I just got. I got a 9000 xd warn winch for my arb bar and was wondering if you have to take the bumper off to install it? I was also wondering how important a aftermarket battery like yellow top is to have, to work the winch or if the stock battery will suffice? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You will need to remove the ARB to install the winch. It's easy.

You can run the winch with the stock battery but the optimum configuration is a dual battery system with the ability to run the winch on either or both batteries.

No I never have had a tatersalad before. That is my call sign because I got stuck one time and got some rednecks to help me out and he called friend and I tater and tatersalad. I was tatersalad. The name stuck with me I guess.

Welcome aboard. I installed my 9000xd without taking the bar off with no trouble. However, on this model you will need either ARB's winch spacers or you'll need to fabricate some yourself to put at least 5/16" of separation between the winch mounting face and the inside of the bullbar. Two pieces of 5/16" strap about 2" wide and 8" tall with properly drilled holes to match the winch holes will suffice. Otherwise the end of the motor will be pulled against the bullbar when you tighten the winch, and that will cause the motor to bind and seize up.

I really appreciate the suggestions. Thank you very much. elmariachi I took into consideration your idea on getting some type of winch spacers, so I bought some stuff and I am going to try to fab some up. I just picked up the winch today from 4 wheel parts and I am very excited to install it today. I hope I will come back victorious. emariachi do I have to get longer bolts for the spacers or will the hardware that came with the stuff suffice?

Oh and as far as the battery situation goes I am just going to keep the stock battery till money permits an Optima yellow top. Maybe even two someday.
