Was picking up my chain saw from the repair shop in my 55 this afternoon. Guy I park next to immediately starts talking my ear off. He had a 40. Really nice guy.

Told me he installed a HHO cell 2 years ago (or something close to that time frame) and swears it increased power, and fuel consumption.
I found some threads in the 60 section about this but nothing in the 40 section. Anyone have any experience with this in a 55??

Electrolysis - making oxygen and hydrogen from water requires more energy than you get from burning the oxygen and hydrogen back into water. A two ton pile of rust does not turn back into a new 1972 FJ40 without lots on money, however a showroom new one will turn into a pile of rust for free.

In the battle of marketing and physics, physics remains undefeated.

I had one on an older stock 60 many years ago. I had some success with the system but it depends on the set up. Basically it adds hydrogen hho gas in the fuel air combustion cycle to make the burn more complete. It’s not a gas substitute but it did a great job of cleaning up the emissions and noticeably more power. If done improperly it can ruin your engine. I wouldn’t bother with it now due to gas being much cheaper.

Sooooo not worth it. I found it interesting I’d never read about it in the 40/55 section which had my spidey senses going. Once again mud sets the record straight.

Thanks everyone.

Lets say you are in a WWII diesel electric submarine running on the surface charging the battery bank - good plan to pull air from the battery compartment and burn the generated hydrogen in the diesels. It gets rid of the hydrogen explosive/combustive danger (Hindenburg) and maybe adds a little power, but the goal was to charge the batteries.

Mud saves the day most days, even anything that’s not even closely related to a LC.

Then a P-38 Lightning spots you and strafes your U-Boat!

Sorry, Charlie, ... couldn't help myself!
