My hj47 came with a NEW( brand ) 15,000lbs 12/24v remote winch , i hooked the new truck battery upto it & only got solenoid clickn . Anyone know what that means , can u get parts for electrical motors of winchs & solenoids , how do u service winchs ? , only serviced a 20ton worm drive pto winch before.

In could be a bad solenoid or a bad motor. The typical motor is series wound and has 3 "hot" connection lugs on top. Two lugs are on the inside closest to the drum and one is on the outside. To test the motor without the solenoid, disconnect the wires at the 3 lugs. Make sure the motor case is grounded or connected to the - side of the battery. Wire one of the inside lugs to the outside lug and then connect the other inside lug to the battery + and the motor should run if it is OK. Switch the inside lug connections and the motor should run in the opposite direction.

Not sure how to upload pics wit my android phone in here , wil try tommorrow . Took the cover off today , theres 4 solenoids all hooked up in series i think , look like the contacts need cleaning . So theres 2 power lugs going to the motor on one side & 1 the other side of the motor . So the the side with the 2 lugs is neg - & the single lug is posiive+ ?? The brand ic called " NEW" .Will post pics tommorrow , thanx, think its a warn copy brand .

The four solenoids are single pole, single throw switches wired to function as a double pole, double throw (DPDT) switch. The contacts that are importaant are sealed inside the cylinders. All 3 lugs on the motor are +. The case is -. The two inside lugs are the field windings and the outside one and the case are the armature. The field is connected in series with the armature. Which end of the field is connected to the armature lug determines the direction of rotation. The other end of the field connects to the battery +. It is the DPDT solenoid pack that switches the connections.

^^thats exactly what I was thinking....
