Hey Jim, what is the 5 speed tranny check procedure

Hi Jim,

Cant find my book at the moment, forgot how to check the 5 speed,(been a while) is it engine running, put it through the gears and back to park, then pull dipstick and wipe and then check while running in park?

Yes, get engine/tranny to operating temp (ATF should be 70-80C), then w/ foot on brake and e-brake on, shift from P to L in each position, then back to P. Engine should be idling, ATF level in hot range. It gives a hint, saying if you've been driving for extended periods at higher speeds in hot weather, driving in traffic, or towing, wait 30 min before checking.
