Hesitation FIXED!!

First I would like to SHOUT OUT a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that contributes to this forum. I only hope I can now help others as problems arise.

I finally picked up my cruiser last Thursday (9/7/06) from the shop following a complete long block rebuild. This story could be a lot longer but I will keep it short. It took a total of 10 weeks and many hours of me reading this forum to help the mechanic with a few problems. So, on my way home I noticed that although strong the engine had a hesitation in it when I would coast for a couple of seconds then start applying gas again. I lived with this all last week after reading several posts and peaking around the engine a little. My full set of FSMs arrived yesterday (9/15) and I was excited to finally find the suspected incorrect vacuum connection. I purchased ~30 feet of vacuum hose including the line for the PCV valve and went to work. After about an hour Friday night then 2 hours Saturday morning I found it. It ended up to be two connections that were swapped on the passenger’s side of the carburetor and the wrong hose to the main vacuum advance for the distributor. The “Advancer Port” and the “Fuel Cut Port” hoses were reversed. Also the hose with the VTV to the distributor was connected to the sub diaphragm (HAC system) instead of main diaphragm.

Thanks again to all who posted answers to the Hesitation threads, they were very helpful.

The rebuild was completed by Southern Cylinder Head here in Hunstville. The motor was removed and installed at a shop that I regularly have do general maintenance.

Good news. I dig the silver paint job on the block...haven't seen that before

I am glad that you like it. I had a hard time deciding because I really wanted to have it painted orange, but thought the silver gave it a nice clean look.

Never painted a motor silver before... but it's kinda grow'n on me... orange is kinda chevy look'n.. black is most common around here...nice cruiser!!

My engine block looks like Prince William Sound after Capt. Joe Hazelwood had a few martinis. I'm soooooo jealous... that is one clean 2F.

I think you made the right call on silver vs. orange.

Hats off to ya on the hesitation fix as well, Rootbeer.

I should have painted my block when it was out.

Your engine looks sweet! Glad to hear your 60 is up-n-runnin'! Just think: you won't have to worry about doing this for another 225,000 miles or so...
