So, I'm getting ready to pull everything out of my cruiser and rebuild it. Thing is, I dont think I can get everything out with the transfer case attached. I do have the Max Ellery manual, but it says to look in the transmission section for removal instructions, and the transmission section says to see the transfer case section :bang:

So, other than the 3 long bolts, and the nut under the nose cone, what else needs to be undone before that thing will come off? I got it that far, and it wouldn't budge :frown:

Oh, it's a 4 speed tranny and the Transfer case has a dual directional PTO (not that I have anything to attach to it...

I knew Toyota would do something crazy like that =) thanks a ton =)

The PTO drive has to come off and you'll see two other bolts in there, 17mm heads.

After those are off it still may not just slide off as the rear output bearing is pressed onto the tranny output shaft and it must slide off with the transfer case. If the PO stuck the tranny and transfer together with silicone you'll be in for a fight!

I created a transfer case puller to get it off without damage. I had one where the PO used silicone and it bent the 1 1/2" x 1/8" angle iron I made my puller from before it let go!

We have a monstrous hub puller for our Uni-Mog. it's basically a Huge 3-claw puller. I'm wondering if that would work :/
