Help with Buying - 2015 LC w/ 29K miles or 2017 w/ 60K ?

I would opt for the 2017. Mileage is the least of your concern with a Land Cruiser and what kills these machines is time (rubber degradation\leaks) and rust. The 16+ have much needed improvements and quite arguably much better looks (hood buldges and led taillights set the car apart from your average SUV).

To each, their own. One could argue that mileage can have a bigger impact on rubber and leaks... particularly on two vehicles only a few years apart.

And looks are subjective, I don't particularly care for the bulge nor taillights on the Highlinder... err I mean Land Cruiser 🍿

Definitely agree on rust.

16+ steering wheels are notorious for wearing quickly. Also the leather was updated and feels nicer but more than a few reports on here of it wearing marginally quicker than the early stuff.

Crash prevention cameras in the 16+ make windshield replacements much more involved when it comes time.

That said I have a 13 and prefer the appearance of the 16+ redesign all day long. Only vehicle I could see replacing mine with.

Anyone telling you the 15 is a better value than a 16+ is coping with their previous purchase.
Choose wisely and just get the 17 and be done with it.

Interesting statement. I can afford to buy what I want. When i bought my 15 new it was late in the model year and they already had 16s available. I chose to buy a 15 because, while I liked the new front fascia, i really did not like the new dash design. The knobs and buttons feel flimsy. It just did not have the solid feel I expected from a Land Cruiser. So I bought the 15 and have been happy with my choice.

Everyone looks for certain things in a vehicle. My choice may be different than yours. But I wasn’t ‘coping’ in any way, shape, or form.

Well... in the OPs case, how could anyone suggest to buy the 2015 at that price point?
Seems like bad advice given their "value" is about $10k below the listing.

I looked at a 15 before I had made my purchase and it was a fine vehicle.
Really comes down to what makes YOU happy.

And if we are going to list the quirks with the 16+ then atleast for OPs sake, equally list the quirks for the older models as well.

I just did a quick search on cars.com / autotrader / cargurus nationwide listings - I don't see a single 2015 with sub-30k miles for $10k below OPs listing... all are right around or above what OP is being quoted.

Other than the introduction of Safety Sense P and the 8 speed transmission, not much changed beyond appearance. Some people like the older 6 speed transmission (me for sure) and others like the 8 speed (with reprogramming). Having the latest Safety Sense P is nice as it added lane departure and other features.

Would I pay that for a 2015 with 29k miles? If I was still driving my 100 every day and looking to get into a 200 I think I would. But again it comes down to preference. The 2015 and 2017 are both way out date and over priced tech wise based on any reasonable measure in 2023. But given how long I keep my vehicles that doesn’t matter. Who knew when I bought it new that I would still driving (at least occasionally) my FJ60 35 years later?

I am bias because i own a 2019……..but anytime I hear……ultra low mileage, owned by some old rich lady, and has impeccable service history……it makes me drool…..

30k vs 60k is NOT A BIG MILEAGE difference on these vehicles. I stand by my above statement.

If you like the features of the 2017 better, then buy it.

If you're like @stonepa and don't enjoy a heated steering wheel in the winter, cooled seats in the summer, and the much better aesthetics of the 16+s, then buy the 2015. :)

Imho, if you like the ‘16+ aesthetics then you’re better off getting a ‘18+ to get the better drivetrain improvements, electric rear hatch and new design radiator.

Not surprising...
It's a freaking 9 year old vehicle with less than 30K AND a Land cruiser to boot!

I think the mileage difference is immaterial on a LC designed to go 500K. I'd opt for the newer model for some of the aforementioned reasons.... improved gearbox, improved interior and LED front lights. I do like the more "vintage" look of the older LCs, but the improvements to the newer model take the cake for me.

P.S. I'm biased and bought a '16 in '16. Sounds silly but I really wanted the LED lights and improved interior! :)

What I absolutely did not / do not like are the silly multimedia screens integrated into the front driver and passenger seats. Wish I could have optioned "out" of those; believe that become possible later - maybe with the '17 onwards?

Then I don't understand your earlier comment... the vehicle in question has 29k miles and is 2015. And should be compared to similar examples on the market to determine the current market value.
