is this a blown HG? i went to start it up and it stumbled then shut off.. white smoke was pouring out of the intake..i gave it a few mins and looked if there was anything that i could see was wrong and i dint see anything so i tryed starting it, it stumbled a lil and started up and ran fine..but i did only run it for 5 mins maybe i was afriad it was a blown HG and i would be fawlkin up my engine...i have had NO lose in coolant and the truck has been running great..

is there any way to tell if it is the HG or could it be somthing else???

anyone with an idea please post up i was planning on offroading tomorrow...

while i have never personaly had a HG go.............white smoke out exhaust= blown headgasket AFAIK :(

check oil for water and water for oil, but even if you find none it still might be the HG.

OH.......you said intake not exhaust? where is it coming out the intake at?

yeah it came out the intake....as in the the air hose coming off the air cleaner..

i drove it around for about 20 mins just now and it acted completly normal...i dont have a clue what it could be i took the air cleaner top off and looked at the air cleaner and nothing...

i dont know if i should take my trip over to a friends house tomorrow or not???

about 250 mile round trip

Landpimp... by white smoke out of the exhaust do you mean a continuous flow of smoke or just a puff of smoke? My reason for asking is that I just saw the first puff of smoke from my 60 tonight. It happened right after startup. I did clean the carb recently (lots of cleaner was in the carb), so could the deposits have just made their way to the exhaust? It was just a puff... and then I revved the engine and another puff came out... but then it was fine. It drove like normal right after with no more smoke.

Should I be worried?

Lowtide... sorry to hijack, but we are in a similar boat.

could it have backfired thru the carb???

jhstatts when are ya gonna take that rig to ocala for some trail rides???
thats if my prob is not a blown HG...

what other spot would white smoke come out of to get to the air cleaner and come out the hose??? my guess would be it came from the carb..but what would cause that?? when it stumbled would it have backfired back thru the carb???

No, sounds like a normal response to me. Al, have you been spraying the carb again? BTW I don't think it's the HG from just what yer saying.

nope not for a while..but i checked the carb as well and it still looked clean...while i was taking the bolt off that holds down my air cleaner top, there was smoke leaking past...and that was after a 20 min drive..

i am going to take a drive for a while today and see if anything surfaces, i dont know what else to do.???

lowtide...

Man, I hope you figure it out. I feel for you.

FSUsteve... thanks. That makes me feel better in general.

i also had tiny bubbles on my dip stick but it did not look like water. and i cant remember if i ever saw them before.

I've seen the bubble thing before - but there wasn't a problem. Seems like I saw them when I checked the oil right after shutting off the engine. Keep an eye on it though - you never know.

On the smoke thing, I was thinking that maybe something got through your fuel filter - or maybe there's a little water in the tank or somthing. Maybe you can put a little HEET in the tank and change the filter (not sure about the HEET though...might want to wait and see if the filter helps)

Is there a chance that something spilled inside of the breather or on the manifold?

nope not that i can think of..i just dont get why the intake would shoot out white smoke like that??

steve,
smoke was coming out of the intake hose that leads to the air cleaner, its the main air intake for the engine. on the air clearn lid thing whatever ya want to call it, but it is held down by two wing nuts and a sing bolt over the carb while i was unscrewing the bolt over the carb there was smoke coming from well the single bolt over the carb. which your backfired thru carb idea sounds pretty good, becouse of the smoke coming from that bolt over the carb.

I wonder if it's EGR related? You just replaced it, right? (just thinking out loud here)

Does it do it when the engine is cool, or after it warms up? Can you take pics? Also, have you checked your plugs for weird build up or glazing or anything out of the ordinary?

I'm asking all of this because if it's a blown HG, you'd see evidence in the combustion chamber, exhaust, etc. Also, I can't help but wonder if whatever smoking is burning in the combustion chamber, or if it's something in the intake manifold. If you can figure out where it's burning, that would narrow it down.

And I have to agree with Steve - if it's running fine, whatever it is will burn off eventually and you should be fine.

well it only happened once...and from the advice i have heard it was prob a back fire thru the carb or flooded fuel being burnt..

I have never had something like that happen............really odd, but as it runs good and hasnt done it again.............call it good to go :)
