So I had to replace my transmission and I took a chance on an A440 out of an early 80 series, knowing that things like the shift linkage may be on the wrong side, which indeed they are now that we have it.
Now, that didn't bother me that much because I remember seeing someone do the exact same thing and they just fabricated a bracket that went over the tranny to connect the linkage. For the life of me I can't find that thread again. Does anyone know who that was or have a link to that thread?
<< WHY didn't I save that thread when I saw it
>>
To proactively answer the question of why I used a US spec one, it is seemingly impossible to find a full hydro JDM one, at least for under $10k. I actually ordered a hydro A442F and waited 4 months for it only to find it was an electro version, and had to return it. I didn't want to wait any longer so I took my chance on this one. My truck has been inoperable since November at this point. I considered going with a Wholesale Automatics rebuilt tranny, but those are also US spec from Terrain Tamer USA. Shipping from AU is prohibitive along with the high cost of a WA model.
Please and thank you for any guidance.
