I have a 97 cruiser and am at the mercy of the factory installed alarm.

It hasn't gone off in over 3 years. Today I walked to the passenger side with the secondary key. I unlocked the door and opened it. The alarm immediately went off and I can't get it to stop.

I tried putting the key in the ignition and it does nothing. The truck will not start and the only way to get the alarm to stop is to disonnect the battery.

I lost the primary key about 6 months ago and had a copy made with the secondary key.

What do I do to reset the alarm and, more importantly, start teh truck as this is my only means of transportation.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Turn the ignition to the "on" and off twice. I believe the turns it off.

Got it. THANK YOU CRUISER804 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You also should know that the alarm has some eccentric behaviours. For example, if you use the fob to arm the alarm and use the key to open either door (PS or DS), this will set off the alarm.

Fun, huh?

After replacing the alternator, every time I reconnected the battery, the alarm would go off. I had to follow these instructions I found on Mud even though I don't even have a remote control.

To erase all remote control codes from the system:
1: Insert key into the ignition switch, and turn it to on.
2: Press and hold the ECU programming switch for 3 seconds. The status monitors LED turns on for 5 seconds.

***You must perform the next step within 5 seconds***
3: Press and hold the ECUs programming switch for over 2 seconds again. The status monitors LED turns off, then flashes 3 times. The piezo chirper chirps 3 times and the exterior lights flash 3 times.
4: Turn off the ignition. The ECU has cleared all remote control codes. Until another remote control is programmed, the system will not work with any remote control.
