So this morning i turn the beast on and hit the a/c when i hear a strange sound. I open the hood and find that the belt is off track. I attempted to adjust it but the tensioner will not move at all. I am using using a size 14 and going counter clockwise but absolutely nothing. Am i doing something wrong?

I am glad this happened in my driveway, a few days before a road trip with the family.

Thanks!

More arm strength. Don't be shy.

I use a 3/8" flex handle, with a foot of pipe placed over the handle. Easiest is to put the belt in place but leave the belt under the idler...move the tensioner with your wrench or socket setup and lift the belt up on top of the idler. Release release wrench and you're done. Most of the time is involved placing the belt on and around stuff on the lower front of the engine.

i will keep trying without stripping it. So does this mean my tensioner needs to be replaced? what causes this? assuming i am able to put the belt back on track will it be safe to drive?

thanks, im using way more than 20lbs and nothing. im using a size 14 with a long bar.

You're on the tensioner? Below and leftish (as you stand looking at the engine) of the thermostat housing and not accidentally on the idler? Just checking :) if you're using way more effort than 20ft lbs and it's not giving it looks like you've got a problem there.

lol, i hope im on the right one, the one on the i posted.

Thanks for the help.

Yep I think you're on it, if it's locked up you're going to have a lot of trouble slipping the belt back on unfortunately.

I guess ill be ordering a new one. So i have two part number, any preference?
16620-0W101
16604-0F010

Thanks.

Can't add value here as I'm still on the original, but I do know there was a redesign of the tensioner. Hopefully someone who has changed one out recently will chime in.

Try taking off the intake pipe and put your wrench on top/12 or towards 11 and swing it counter clockwise.
