I purchased my 1992 FJ80 back in May and on of the first things that I did to my rig was to replace the leaking radiator and then I decided that if I was going to spend the money I might as well do it right and replace the waterpump/thermostat/belts/hoses at the same time.

What a nightmare that was trying to get all that stuff out WITHOUT removing the A/C condensor or damage it in the process.

Anyway, now that everything in the cooling system has been replaced, I now have a problem with the truck being hard to start first thing in the morning when the engine is cold, it turns over just fine but it seems like its not getting any spark or fuel, then it runs a little rough for about 30-45 sec. then it runs like a champ.

I've read in past postings that the EFI relays tend to go out so I bought a new one and put it in.

Also, when the truck is at normal temp. some times it's hard to start, same problem as above, but then if I let it sit for a few minutes it fires right up without me doing a thing to it.

I'm sure it's something fairly simple that I'm overlooking but any help you guys could give would greatly appricated.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to MUD! I have the same rig. This site is the best and you will be able to find answers to most questions in the FAQ's and by searching. One of the first goals on your rig is to baseline PM everything so you know where you are at. (Fluids, hoses, filters, plugs, wires, etc.) There is a lot of info on here about similar issues that you are experiencing. I'm no mechanic, but from what you are describing I'd do a full tuneup and replace fuel filters, including the sock in the tank. There is a lot of info/help on the 3FE Yahoo group too...

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info., I did a complete once over on my rig and found that the rad. was the only major that that needed help.

I have since replaced the dist. cap and rotor, wires and plugs.

I had to wait a week to install the plugs due to time restraints but I could really notice a big improvement with the new Bosch Platinum plugs.

Once again, thanks for any and all help, I'm looking forward to attending meetings in the Houston area and getting my truck covered in mud.:bounce:

Jess:cheers:

Check the cold start injector

My rig does the same thing about once-a-year. I just pull the cold start injector and clean it with some solvent and a rag. Then it starts up fine.:)
