And .. I ask .. if we have an aftermaket rear seat belts option .. maybe generic, for X typo of cars .. ? that function in ours Land Crusiers . ?

belts

thanks everybody, that answers my question.

Pretty well decided on the 81 now, had to test drive a Landrover Discovery to make sure.

FYI www.cruiserparts.net have some belts listed.

thanks again

I think you could go used. From a wreaking yard in the US, fj80 belts may work.'

Have to check my EPC tonight. But why not used. You can inspect them pretty through and test the inertia part.

Worth seeing. As long as they are clean and tear free.

I agree, it's just that the front seatbelts in my rig don't lock up always when I yank on them so I've been contemplating replacing them with new units to ensure/improve safety. Not sure if they are not "triggered" unless you are slamming on the break (I doubt it).

I think going used would be OK as long as, as you stated, they are in good working condition. But as for me, I'm going new, just so I can sleep better at night. ;)

Thanks for all of your ledwork, brownbear! Sure appreciate it.

No Problem.

Sometimes its hard to tell if they would lock up.

They might have sticky inertia slide latch things..........I suggest pulling the upholstry, pulling the belt all the way out and cleaning the mechanism the best you can.

Maybe some electical contact cleaner, or some of that keyboard cleaner, compressed C02. That might get the old dust out.

I don't know... being a  :hillbilly like myself, this project might be a bit over my head. But maybe it wouldn't be as challenging as it sounds.

Probably getting the upholstry out/off and stuff is harder than the cleaning part. :)

I'll try that first before flushing my hard-earned $$$ down the drain. :D

Thanks!

Mot :)

oh other than interior bits, which is simple as one

you don't take the seat belt apart. there may be dust covers on the ends that can snap off. but its just a blow out that is maybe needed.

If it doesn't work. They maybe new are the ticket.

Feel free to post some pics of the inertia reel. We might be able to help........

see this end, do not remove it says. I bet that lets you clean the locking tabs. if you removed the cover.

not sure what the 80 series one looks like.

this is a new 3 point one for my BJ60. Nice brown eh?

pull the belt all the way out. clamp out. open cover cautiously. do this on a passenger one first. then you can drive to buy a new one if the guts fall out......

no seriously. screwing with seatbelts is not adviseable. But I feel they can be cleaned and put back together.

I would not use any oil in them. Dry only.

I paid about 120 each for these. tomorrow I might pull the cover.....

I had to open it. the curiosty got me.

this was under the white cap.

see the lever it locks when weight pushes on it.

the cogs catch for tthe main stop. the weight must be for weird angles.(upside down)?

I would actuate and spray compessed air thru it. if that did not work, then some electronic contact cleaner.

then if all else fails a incredibly small amount of greaseless spray. Not wd40.

more like lps1. or silicon lube. light.

disclaimer: this is advice on a free public forum. screwing with seatbelts is at your own risk. However I feel this is fine the manufactor(toyota) may not. DO this at your own risk. Whatever it may be.

brown,

Thanks so much for going through all the trouble!

I'm not sure if I'm as brave as you are, but I guess I'll have to get to it if I ever wanted to replace them anyway.

So I'll take your advice and do the passenger side first (in front) and make sure in advance that the local Toyota parts warehouse has one in stock before taking on this monstrous project upon myself. ;)

Yours,
