Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, I have 3 Land cruisers 2x 76 and 1x 80. Nice to meet fellow Land cruiser enthusiasts!

Recently one of my 2004 1HZ 76 has a problem of stutter at highway speed and smoke comes out of exhaust pipe as it stutters. Only happens at highway speed, local driving under 100km/h is fine, no issues.

The stutter feels like the engine suddenly lost power for a second and then it resumes normal. Vehicle idles fine, starts up fine, no other symptoms.

Is there any experienced shops in Toronto, Canada people recommend where I can take the vehicle to fix?
Any help appreciated, thanks!

fuel filters first then injectors next i would say

Suspect air being sucked into the fuel lines at high speed because the engine is demanding extra fuel, extra work and of course air is replacing fuel as a consequence.
Think of drinking from a straw with a hole in it. Cover the hole and voila!
Check your primer, this should get hard with a couple of pumps. Use a section of clear hose from the filter outlet to the IP inlet. Air bubbles mean that there is a vacuum leak upstream. Now this might be tougher at high speed.(Maybe a camera)
Check all connections.
Have you mucked about with the fuel filter lately?

Nice 76! Almost identical to mine. 😃

This is a relatively minor issue, but it will become worse over time. I also suggest that it is air finding it's way into the system. My build thread as well as @JDM Journeys build thread extensively go through the procedures for narrowing down the point of a leak.

I say a minor issue as it just takes time and patience. From your original post, it sounds like you want to take it to a shop, but the labour on this will be high as it takes time to identify where the issue is. The fix is generally not too expensive once found. (new fuel lines, clamps, primer, pickup from the fuel tank, etc.)

Mine ended up being the pickup lines from the fuel tank. You do not mention the mileage on the unit in question. My air issues arose somewhere around the 260,000km point. My 76 is a couple of years older, however. Fuel lines can wear out, corrode, and create a pinhole to allow air into the system. Hoses can dry out and crack, etc.

I cannot help with a shop in Toronto, but perhaps someone else has a suggestion. If you must take it to a shop, then I would look for a reputable, old school diesel shop that has mechanics that still know how to logically troubleshoot problems instead of needing a computer to tell them what to do. This is why I stopped using shops and do all my own mechanical work myself now.

Best of luck, and welcome to the forum!

thank you all for the help!!!
my 76 has 370,000km.
I will read up more on how to check fuel lines, I do not have a mechanical bckground, but will ask my freinds at RCLUB in Toronto, some of them must know how to check the fuel lines.
Will check and let you know! hope to get it fixed, thanks guys!!!
