Hey all - could use a hand here as I plan out the suspension for my 06 Land Cruiser. Here's how it sits now - stock suspension and 33's. No AHC.

here is my last build that had OME 2860. I loved this, but I don't think I want to go as tall this time. Plus the ride was pretty harsh when I wasn't loaded down.

For additional weight, here's what I carry:
- removed 3rd row seats
- custom drawer system that's ~150 lbs
- ARB front bumper coming soon
- half of the year I run a roof tent that's ~140 lbs
- when we go camping we add another 40-80 lbs worth of gear

For this 06 build, I want it to be capable off road, but more of a "touring" setup that we will be comfortable driving long distance to the trailhead. I don't want it quite as high as my previous LC on 2860s. I think ideal would be around 1.5" of lift, comfortable with minimal weight in it, but still able to stand up to some added camping weight when we load up the tent and geat.

So here are the options I'm considering:

Dobinsons C59-167: Listed at 2", but are these going to be just as all as my medium weight OME 2860s? Worried that will be too much.

Dobinsons C59-223V: These are interesting. Says about 1.75" lift with no rear weight so I'm hoping I'd land around 1.5" but then I see the real world lifts are 10-20mm which is hardly anything

Dobinsons C59-185: These list as 440lbs constant weight for about 1.5". Will these ride like a dump truck if all I have is my 150 lb drawers in the back for daily driving and ski trips?

OME 2865: These are 1.5" lift, but if I add weight to go camping are they going to sag big time?

OME 2866: I think these are listed with a pretty tall height (2.5") but they are progressive and I can't really tell how much they will actually lift the vehicle.

The variable spring thing is new to me. Any others I should be considering?

Sorry for the major brain dump here, but any help / guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I can't speak to the options you've mentioned. I have a set of Tough Dog gold coils that I replaced with heavier tour-flex coils when I installed my rear bumper. The golds were great with front bumper/winch, sliders, and drawers. I'd sell 'em cheap to get them off of the shelf in my garage if you'd be interested.

I run OME 2863s and I really like them. Yes, the 2865s will sag a bit, but much worse is you will be undersprung and hitting your rear out on the trails. Ask me how I know.

Thanks but it looks like you're carrying way more weight than I am so I think those would make my cruiser ride like a dump truck.

I just posted a set of Dobinsons in the classifieds that would be perfect for your setup. I am currently "unladen" in the rear and they were still smooth; just too much lift vs how low I wanted to keep the front. I think they are well priced and are virtually new. I replaced them with a set of factory spring rate coils because we have literally zero weight in the rear (including rear seats removed.) With 150-350lbs in the back of a 100 I think these are an exceptional set of springs.

I had the 65s before I added the rear bumper and they were way too soft. I think we are probably closer than you think on weight, especially on the rear. I don't have rear drawers or a roof top tent.

I have a 180lb. RTT and about 70lbs. of recovery/tire repair/spares in the back and I'm pretty sure I have 860's currently and am thinking of the move to 863's. After 863's I'll measure the void inside the springs (diameter and height from bottom perch horn to top) and pick up a set of universal airlift bags for those measurements to adjust to fully loaded camping trips. That way, once we unload and set up camp, I can air them down and have the desired spring rate for wheeling.

cool I'll check it out! Although I'm thinking these will be pretty much the same as the OME 860s which were a little taller than I want. Can anyone confirm?

Interesting. I'm pretty sure the 863s are the same as the 860s I had on my red cruiser, but even stiffer which would be going the wrong direction. Is that not correct?

so I actually went with the Dobinsons progressive C59-223V as it looks like I'll get 1" - 1.5" depending on how much weight I'm carrying.

I'll report back once I have them installed in case helpful for anyone else

I’m very pleased with my OME 2865’s. They achieved my goal of a modest lift and additional load carrying capacity without killing the ride quality or lifting too much. I’ve had no issues with then sagging when loaded. Based on my measurements I gained about 1.25”. My 3rd row is removed and replaced with custom cargo drawers occupied by some tools and recovery gear.

These are not the springs you want if your going to be carrying a lot of weight, adding a steel rear bumper with swing out, spare, etc, however. If your looking to stay near stock height and weight they’re a good choice, IMO.

Going this (223V) route to replace my worn-out OME springs- especially after adding drawers...

I have the 223V and they give a solid 1-1.5 inches of lift. Mine sits slightly stink buggish but I love it. Nice and cushy on road and holds plenty of weight and doesn’t sag on our expeditions out west when fully loaded. Highly recommended!

love it! That's exactly what I'm hoping for.

Weird that other users are reporting 10mm of lift. Maybe they have way more weight?

Or their old springs were really worn..a better way might reporting the fender heights..

Here's what I just concluded on my 2002 Landcruiser. I have ARB bumpers on the front and the back. The original springs were shot, so I started with OME 2863, but the back was too high and couldn't get more out of my torsion bars (and not sure I wanted to anyway). Spoke to ARB tech support and told me that the 2863's were "oversprung" for my setup. So I just finished replacing them with the OME 2860's, which the tech suggested and they are much better. They will likely settle more over time, but the ride was dramatically improved after the initial 3 mile spin just now. The 2863's gave me 24 inches (hub to fender) in the rear and the 2860's were 1.5 inches lower at 22.5 inches. The front is sitting at 20 inches.
