lostmarbles, you're a champion.
Here's a pic of my EDIC, it's not like the one above. It simply has a single standard male blade clip connector at the back.

Maybe this is the EDIC controller?

Hi Guys, I'm a newbie to this forum stuff and hope its ok to put my 2 cents in here.
Ive got a "79 BJ40 that I have rebuilt from the ground up. I have been running the engine with the EDIC control lever removed and have been switching it off manually under the hood. Now that we are close to putting it back on the road I have discovered it has a "79 BJ42 fuel control relay instead of a BJ40 relay and the 42 just isn't compatible.
Any idea where I can get a replacement relay from?
Thanks, Carl.
Thank you lostmarbles.
Took me 1/2 dozen phone calls to lead me to a dead end of Discontinued from toyota.
I might have to get a relay rod there 2 unless any1 has 1. A clip is missing off the end of mine & it is currently MIA.
Hi Tom.
I have worked out I have the right Fuel Control Relay 28590-56060 but have the wrong EDIC motor. The FCR wiring is identical to the loom wiring and is working fine when tested.
I need to source an Edic motor for a 1979 BJ40. Running a B Engine (3L Diesel).
Any idea where I can find it?
The motor I have runs fine but is for the BJ42 and is wired differently to the FCR.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not good at searching for this stuff online.
Thanks, Carl.
Hi Tom,
Wondering if I can fit a manual cutoff cable to the edic motor to stop the engine. I'm guessing this should be fine during summer not having the magnet advance for cold starts. Seems to start ok with edic disconnected using glow plugs.
Then keep looking for a replacement edic motor. Im going to contact cruiserparts.net & see if they still have the 3b edic.
Cheers, Carl.
Thanks, I will save this, at this point i'm still gunning to get the matching relay & set it up as original.Hi Carl
The cable needs to be a PTO type cable so you can leave it out by 1/4 inch so you have full control of the injection pump. Push the cable all the way in and you have enrich start. Once the engine starts pull back 1/4 inch for run position. When you want to shut engine down pull cable all the way back. This set up also can give the engine more fuel on hills etc by pushing the cable back in for fuel enrichment like on start but once on flat ground pull back 1/4 inch to run position.
Thanks, I will save this, at this point i'm still gunning to get the matching relay & set it up as original.
Hi Tom,
Thanks, if you have timr, can you please send the part number from your edic motor & its matching relay....
Thanks, Carl.
I have the relay # & EDIC # see attached photo. Can anyone confirm that they do or don't match?
The edic connects to the dual connections & matches the wiring & when tested operates but the relay seems to be wired differently to my loom but seems to have the right serial number.
If a previous owner changed the loom i'm in the s***!
Mine was that colour. Went mad with spray paint a few years ago.My EDIC relay is 28590-56060 (according to the Toyota because I haven't had it out to read the number off it).
My EDIC motor is definitely 28571-56030. Unlike the relay (which is hard to get at), I can even confirm this with a photo:

Well that relay sure seems to match what the EPC says I have too (if it is 28590-56060).
And this proves that Toyota says 56060 is the right one:

So what do you mean by "wired differently".
Maybe I should try and pull mine out and check the number on it for you?
Where did you get that relay from? Mine is not black in colour.. Here's mine... Well all I can currently see of it anyway:
