They are in the vicinity but possibly 1/4” off. If I needed to drain the very bottom plug….the skid plate has to come off. It’s as if a portion of the nut is obscured by the steel and not centered in the hole. I could re-drill a little and make it line up but I’m good as it is. All new fluids, seals, bearings etc.

I’m thinking all of this still says …..this may not be the intended May 1975 part…but fits?

So your saying there is no threaded hole behind the third bolt? Here is my 2/73 front bolt for the third speed skid plate.

Fixed nut is located in the center where the support for the running board is riveted to the frame. Same location as your bolt your using at the front. Any further forward the skid plate covers the bellhousing inspection cover.

I have no other hole as far back as I can go… I am in the last possible hole going toward the rear, then 2more bolts going forward. This photo from the drivers side has the rear of the frame to the right. There are no more options, from the factory of course to go further back.

Interesting my 2/73 has four bolts per side. Skid plate for the four speed was the same part number from the start of four speed up to 1/79. All my four speed skid plate have the same pattern of bolt holes and revit holes. What does it look like right in front of the next rivet towards the back. Is that area exposed or under the skid plate? Looks like the bolt will be covered by the skid plate. Here is a three speed skid plate in front with a four speed skid plate behind it.

The shinning black skid plate is off my 10/75 FJ40 with 4500 miles. Would be correct for four speeds up to 1/79. This one has been trimmed because it has a factory installed Borg Warner full time 4WD transfer case.

This I believe is off my 2/73 FJ40.

Side by side easy to compare the patterns in the mounting holes.

Here is a photo of the one I have prior to install… has only two rivet clearance slots and 3 bolt holes
