Been awhile since I posed a question. I bought another FJ40 to build up- needs work as they all do. Question though - anyone know the trick by looking at the picture below how to start it? I’m ordering a new cylinder to replace, but I need to do some starting to test other areas…

I just can’t figure it out. It was started multiple times during purchase process (using the key), but it wasn’t me. Lol…I guess I should have beeen shown before trailering it home.

The housing around the key cylinder doesn’t look like it’s set right. Short term solution, remove the steering locking device so you don’t have an accidental lock while driving.

And - then, as stated hot wire it. Get a remote starting switch for engaging the starter for under the hood, hot wire the distributor and start it up.

If it’s carbureted, probably need to be on the drivers side to open the throttle as you start the process of starting.

Typically I punt my gas peddle 3 or 4 times while starting mine. Usually starts in 2 to 3 seconds.

Of it’s been sitting for awhile. It’ll take more to start it

This was purchased without the key cylinder? Do you have a legit title 😄 ?

as stated above, the slot in the back can be turned with a screwdriver.
there is no column lock on a US 40 series
