I just purchased these lcd screens that have power wire that it says to connect to the battery 12V. But when the key is not in the ignition, it still gets power to it. I'm afraid that one day, someone's gonna forget to turn off the screen and it's gonna drain the battery. So, does anyone know how to wire so that I can get power while the key is in the igntion only? TIA.
you need to get a wiring schematic for the radio and find the lead for the remote turn on. the radio has a "hot" lead for power, as well as a remote power lead that tells the radio that your vehicle is "on" so that it can power up.
looks like third wire on the left (red on the aftermarket harness being plugged in) that is with the clip that locks the harness into the radio on the top as you are looking at it. Not sure what color on the toy harness from this picture.
hope that helps. I plan to post that whole series of pics of an aftermarket radio install, with some help from someone here on the list.
wanta,
can you use a cig lighter outlet? If so, the rear one on our 03 is off with ig off, IIRC
or do you want to splice in a wire someplace in the dash?
well, right now I have it spliced into the power that goes to the radio. But the problem with that is that the power is constant. So when I turn off the car, the LCD screen stays on. I want it to turn off when I turn off the car as well.
The ignition wire will stay on until you open the drivers door in your cruiser though.
A diode protected test light or a multimeter would safely test those wires I would not do anything else without those of an exact wire color from a service manual, etc.....
