Help - Clutch Slave Over Travel

I pushed the clutch to the floor yesterday and the clutch released, but then the pedal went soft. When I looked under the truck there was fluid running out of the slave cylinder. It appears I had over traveled the slave cylinder and pushed it out.

It is a brand new aisin clutch master cylinder and slave. What did I do wrong? It is mounted on my SBC the same as the old one was mounted.

Measure the length of the rod on the old compared to the new slave.

Is there something that should limit the travel of the clutch/slave cylinder?

There is no limit of travel on the clutch slave. The adjustment on the pushrod is to short. The pivot arm should move about a quarter of an inch before the throwout bearing touchs the clutch fingers. The spring hooked between the slave and the pivot arm will pull the bearing back away from the clutch fingers and also compress the clutch slave

Sure sounds like your slave cylinder died and will need to be rebuilt/replaced. Unusual since it's brand new...perhaps just a fluke defective unit.

It appears I had over traveled the slave cylinder and pushed it out.

Slave will be fine. He just had to short of a rod adjustment which allowed the piston to come all the way out.
