Hi all. Hoping to get some diagnosis help here. I have a 1988 FJ-62 with 209k miles. I've had it for about 6 months ago. It has start making a clunking sound, it seems only when I am making a right hand turn. My first thought was that the jack might be loose, that is kinda what it sounds like. Like something is shifting.

Could it be the steering box or bushings?

Additionally, this may be unrelated, I often get a banging sounds, like a bell, when I put it in reverse. There is also is sometimes a vibration under my left foot when I am excelerating into a right hand turn from a stop. Not sure if this might be an engine mount issue and related to the clunk when I turn.

The rig had been kept up and is in quite good shape. Just want to figure out what this is and get it fixed

Looks like you need to figure out where the clunk is coming from first. Front or rear or beneath your seat. First thing is to check your tie rod ends, steering linkage and all of the components in the front. You know, the stuff that will end your life if they go bad. Could also be a worn universal joint on the drive shaft. Make certain that she’s in 2WD as well. Lots of things go clunk…..
