Well, title says it all. pinpointed my ac leak to the condenser. tightened the bolt. kept tightening... bolt head sheared off, and ac discharged all over me.

Im ok, just a bit of wounded ego. Anyone know the appropriate part number for the AC condenser lx470? best place to get one?

second option as a quick fix would be to try and back out the sheared bolt, replace the o ring, and see what happens. thought?!?

"The drier/dessicant, which goes inside the receiver-drier cannister, is sold separately and serviceable." do i need to buy the drier/ desiccant as well?
 
Yes, remove the stuck bolt and with a new O-Ring, you should be good to go.
The AC O-rings are green or brown color (not sure about the exact color) but not black.

So the previous o ring is incorrect? I've come down from my adrenaline rush. sucks to take out a semi working AC and go to no AC...

Not necessarily. 'Nitrile' O-rings can be any color including black. The correct SIZE and durometer O-ring is needed, forget about what color it is.

Pick up a set of A/C O-rings for your vehicle (they will probably be green, but don't worry if they are not). See if you can find a bottle of 'Nylog' locally while you are at it. Replace the O-ring (lube it with a little PAG oil, just a light coat), use a couple of drops of Nylog on the mating surfaces of your fittings (hose and condenser) and on the the threads of the bolt. Snug it down. You will not have a leak from that spot again (assuming the parts are not damaged/oversized).
 
i still would need to drill out the sheared bolt. sigh...

I just changed mine a couple weeks ago due to a slow leak on one of the big side tubes on the condenser that was getting progressively worse. It was a Denso part (88460-60903 Condenser Assembly) and came with the Dryer Element already installed inside of the tubular housing attached to the side of the condenser assembly. You will need the two O-rings (90069-08011 Ring, O / 90069-08007 Ring, O) for the lines that attach to it. I sourced mine at my local Toyota Dealer for a couple of dollars.

I also bought my condenser fan (88590-60030 Blower Assembly) from this same website and later on bought @LandCruiserPhil mounts and wiring harness to complete the install. It is a high quality kit and super easy to install. He now even offers a plug and play kit that includes an aftermarket fan for a little more than the OEM fan alone.

As for the installation, put your AHC in high and remove your front skid plate. Then unbolt the lines and mounts on the old one. Drop it straight down and out from underneath the front of truck. Then reinstall in the reverse order and you are ready to recharge the system.

I got a local mechanic to pull vacuum and check for leaks. He put a few ounces of oil and some dye in it and recharged the system for a nominal fee. My A/C now blows super cold even while idling in triple digit degree heat for extended period. I'm very happy with the results.

Mine came from my local Toyota dealer and were black.
 
Try using a locking plier to remove the stuck bolt. I think the threaded portion of the bolt should stay loose there.

How long did it take to receive the condenser? would love to get it done ASAP. thanks for your help and the install write up. looks like it wouldn't take very long...
 
I received the order in 5 business days but It may have been delayed by the 4th of July holiday as I got it the following day. Not too bad from Massachusetts to Louisiana.
 
local dealer quoted me 420 dollars and I could get it on tuesday. IM prob going to order the denso for 180.
 
That would have been an awesome price if they stocked it.

I had bought a dryer element from my dealer so I would have it on hand when I made the swap as I wasn't sure what would come with the order. Fortunately the dryer housing and element come as part of the condenser assembly I ordered so I was able to return it for a refund.

The only questionable thing that I noticed about this replacement Denso dryer is that my original dryer housing had an aluminum cap on the bottom with 2 o-ring seals. The replacement I bought and also the element kit from Toyota use a plastic cap with only one o-ring on it.

So far it isn't leaking...I've got my finger crossed. IMO that Nylog sealant that @flintknapper mentioned is probably a good idea to give some extra piece of mind toward a longer lasting leak free seal.
 
I still can't get over the fact that bolt sheared off. It was turning with very little effort. unreal. I probably needed a 2 dollar o ring, and now I have a 300 dollar s*** show.
 
OK boys, I extracted the screw. what do I need as far as the new O ring as well as the new 10 MM screw. Part numbers if you got em!!!
 
Good news, bought a new Mr T o ring and put her back together. 3 cans of r134 later, and we have cold AC. Still not sure if/ when any of the parts I ordered will arrive. thanks to all who responded... God smiled on me today and let the broken bolt back out. after that, we were rolling... wish I tried the rescue on Sunday, LOL.
