So, within about a week of another, BOTH electric seats broke on this used 99 Land Cruiser. I took it to the dealer where it is, in mexico, and they just said need NEW seats.

I have checked on simple things like fuses, but nothing seems out of touch there.

Is there a service issue with the electric seats, or something else one could check?

Any service profiles for this model anywhere?

What is broken? Did both stop working at the same time? You might be just losing power to the power seat.

Toyota sells all parts but it takes a good dealer to find the right one. Most dealer would try to steer you to a brand new seat. What is broken? When I got mine the height adjuster gear was stripped. The dealer just replace the motor assembly that came with new gearbox.

Go to Vendor forum here and try contacting CruiserDan from American Toyota or 1-800-432-6668. He would be able to hook you up.

If it was me I would just replace the whole assembly with Recaro seat. Replacement OME seat are outrageously priced.

thanks!

thanks,
I'll try that, calling dan

yeah, it seems the electric seats just stopped. The buttons don't move the seat at all. one day, one stopped and then about a week or two later, the other one stopped.

Is there some common power regulartor?

yes, the dealer down there said, new seats, but yes they are $$ and not worth it in this case.

One would think that the motor assembly could be purchased separately.
+1 for calling C-Dan.
If you do replace the seat or assembly let me know. I need a plastic piece off the slide.
Thanks,
Dean

PM LEXUSBEN, he may be able to help you with a pdf file of the electrical wiring diagram to help you solve the mystery. The passenger seat may not have an ECU and simply require power to the switch mechanism, but the drivers seat may have a seat ECU and have three different power feeds from three different fuses. Hard to tell unless you get a wiring diagram. I could scan my Max Ellerys manual ( it may help) if you can't get the proper diagram from Lexusben.

I doubt it's motors. I think there has to be three motors in each seat, one for front to back, one to lower and raise the front and to do the same in the back. The driver's side should have a forth for the lumbar. If everything stopped on each side at one time I think you lost power to the seats. Since this is not a Lexus with the memory this should be pretty simple to check because the seats have power all the time. Find the wiring harness that's connected to the seats and see if it has power. If it does the problem is in the seat. If not you need to find out where it lost power.

Exactly, At this point you need a volt meter or at least a test light. I think you've lost power to the motors,

Unless, Haven't done any deep water crossings have you?:D

On the 03LX, there are 3 fuses powering up the seats (5 motors for the driver's seat, 4 for the passenger). One it the ignition, so you can rule that one out. There is a seat ECU where the switches and motors interface to. My guess is either the plugs are loose or the ECU's have failed...unlikely that all those motors will fail simultaneously unless either the ecu fails or there's no power. If the ecu failed, I would suspect that some functions would still work, so I'd suspect a loose connection/no power.

Hello everyone. Newbie here with 1997 Lexus LX450 original owner since new. Great vehicle. BUT I have the same seat problem as Nikemen. Both front seats will go forward but not back. They are stuck all the way forward which makes fitting in behind the wheel kind of tough. :)
Other controls for back rake, etc. are working. Also am in Mexico and not a lot of Toyota or Lexus back up for earlier models. Will try checking power to seats and loose connections-corrosion. Does anyone have any other ideas? Much appreciated.

If they failed to go backwards and went forwards, and you tried them forwards and they worked, then tried backwards and they didn't, then forwards again until they went to the full front position, then there is a problem in the backwards switch circuit. The motors have their power switched the opposite way to make reverse, so if the motor is OK and working, then it is a bad switch or bad connection. (If you have a Lexus or a LC with memory seats then a relay in the seat ECU could also be U/S.

Roger you may want to post this in the 80-series forum. I don't know if there are any real differences in what you need to be doing vs. a 100-series but there are more resources for your 80 in there. Good luck.

Thanks for feedback 100TD and TAD. I also started a thread in the 80 series forum but also tacked on here to the 99 Lexus 450 problem that started the thread here. Thanks again.
