Hi Guys,

Long time reader, first time post.

I'm in desperate need of a Vacuum Solenoid Valve (I think thats what it is called).

I have a Canadian (24v) HJ60 and I cant get the 4wd to engage. Does anyone know where I can get this solenoid? Dealer says obsolete and it would have been $700 if they still had it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can manually bypass the solenoid to engage the 4wd. Just pull the vacuum supply line of the solenoid and connect it to the other hose running from the solenoid. Spook has a write up using aftermarket parts to replace them. Let me find it.

Thanks for the info.
I did read through that article when i did a search. My only concern is that it is not 24v.
The solenoid on my truck looks slightly different and I'm not sure if its just because mines an 86 and his is an 88 or because mine's 24v.
Sorry for being a noob.
Will that part still work?

Thanks for the post,

I dont suppose anyone knows what the "different" part number might be? As I said, I really have no knowledge of this stuff and the parts department here in my town is absolutely useless.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

The one I used was the idle control solenoid on the top of the 22RE engine. Ask for this part off a diesel cruiser so you get the 24V system.

The other option: Could a 12V VSV Solenoid Valve work on a 24V system? I assume the wires could handle it and not cause a fire. The coil would just get some extra juice, hard to fry a wound solenoid wire...? Any thoughts guys?

Just went through my old thread again.

Ask for the "AC Idle Up" solenoid valve off a 1988 pickup. Or ask the guy for a cheap solenoid valve on one of the other vaccuum systems off a diesel truck. Most are 2 way 2 position solenoid valves that do the same thing. The brackets might be different and the shape might be a little different but they all do the same thing.

Just got off the phone with the local Toyota Dealer. After a long search the guy says the AC idle up solenoid was cheaper but is listed as obsolete as well.

any suggestions on who else I would be able to source this piece from?

or anyone on here with an extra?

I'm desperate as you can probably tell.

Thanks again for all the help

I wouldn't. I would add a resister or a transformer first.

This is going to sound dirty but: You can blow the vaccuum hose and it will engage. Then to disengage you can suck on the other one. My advice is to switch your good solenoid valve to the actuating task and move the old one to the disengaging task until you find a replacement.

The parts guy isn't looking hard enough. You have to do more research and leg work to find a substitute. Get the obsolete part number from this dealer guy and call Cruiser Dan in Texas. He can special order it for you and it won't bne pricey. He also has knowledge of cruisers and might be able to assist in AC Idle Up substitutes.

all my 24V parts are in Calgary being "taken care of" by another cruiserhead, who, it turns out is REALLY hard to get a hold of
so
try Dave Stedman at Japan4X4
or
try Sheldon at G&Scruiserparts
or
Lowenbrau might have one.

do a search and you will find the contact info.
Flipper out.

cheers and best of luck M8
