Hello,

Just a quick introduction, because @Tigris yelled at me for being a lurker. My wife and I just picked up this fairly clean 1998 FZJ70 in Riyadh where we currently reside.

It’s in quite clean condition, and low mileage having been a former government vehicle that almost certainly spent the last 26 years poking around the very flat, very smooth trails of the Diplomatic Quarter in 2nd gear.

She does not have a name quite yet, but I’ll post updates occasionally. We will baseline it after christmas, and replace radiator (patched with epoxy), sort out transfer case/linkage (not shifting into 4wd), A/C compressor (not getting power), and replace rear diff seal (leaking). We plan to swap the carb for EFI as well, put on bigger tires, and likely some fender flares.

We’ve got near term plans to tap out the few minor dings and dents, paint it, sound deaden doors, roof, floor, etc., re-do the interior upholstery, add a decent audio system, and upgrade lighting. Accessories are already on the way from Buildin70s and Svnty out of Australia, as well as from Odd Iron in Georgia (the State), and some interior mods and accessories from Alibaba, eBay, and Amazon, of course.

Many, many thanks to @Tigris, without whose knowledge and desire to help this n00b, I would still be lusting after every “ربع” in Riyadh instead of owning one.

And many thanks to all of you. These days it’s hard to find real community, and I look forward to receiving all of your patient and sage guidance in response to all my dumb/ignorant/misguided questions. Hopefully I can return the favor somehow.

Cheers!

“Sage guidance” ….. Can’t help you there.
“Dumb, ignorant, misguided answers” ….. That’s my speciality. 😊

Hello,

Welcome to the madness.

Throw in a clutch and slave cylinder set.
