well, lots of stories to tell. we finished in 47:17 hours actually, with a 44 hour time limit. 3 hours over.
I have to say, seeing video of trophy trucks coming by is cool. seeing them go by in person is CRAZY COOL! those things are wicked. it just is not captured in a video. then I had to try and sleep with them going by while waiting 3 hours for our bike. that was tough. we went through at least 3 front wheels for bearings going bad, had the rear axle bolt come loose twice, but nothing that wasn't caught in plenty of time. no other mechanical problems. a cell phone got lost early. the guy taped it to the van while taking video of the pit stop and forgot to take it down. it fell off on the road somewhere.
a rider got lost in the dark for over 2 hours. it's tough when course markers are taken down or moved by locals and pits aren't where they were supposed to be. that happened quite a bit. half the onlookers pointing down 1 road and the other half pointing down the other. the gps kept him from going too far astray though.
I am now in/near Guerro Negro. we are driving the vans back to San Diego. should be there tomorrow.
Jon, I never got to see Gonzaga area. we cut across from Valle Trinidad to highway 1. all the rest of our rider changes were on or near hwy 1. however, Conejo beach at night was gorgeous. it's apparently a world famous surfing beach. we were there under the full moon and watched it set about 4am. the area between Mulege and Loreto is totally gorgeous overlooking the sea of Cortez too.
we have a tons of pics and video. I will share when I get home and settle in. see you all soon!
