New to ih8mud!

Hi everyone, I recently acquired my first truck and I'm excited to learn more about it from you all. I live in Austin, TX and work in product design. This will be my adventure rig with my family + my build hobby. Some stats:

LX 470
2004
Arctic White
270k miles
1 owner
minor cosmetic damage on bumpers and roof rack I'll replace anyway

I'm pretty stoked I found this one. The interior is pretty clean, I suspect I'll be replacing the driver seat leathers in the next year due to inevitable wear and tear. I had to get some work done to get it in shape. Next fix is a seized fan clutch. I sound like a jet engine when I downshift.

Latest updates:

I replaced a broken signal light enclosure on the driver side.

I also installed the GROM VLINE v2 unit and routed the mic cable to the roof map light assembly. I was able to hide the cable in the headliner and down the passenger side pillar to the glove compartment. Can't see the wire  . Having real bluetooth audio tunes and modern GPS is very nice on drives. It uses the stock/OEM screen so it looks like Apple CarPlay if it were invented in 2004. The aesthetic works!

Finally, I had the front side window tint redone at purchase by the dealer. Previous owner was a wealthy grandma, I have to assume, what with all the dings in the film from a diamond ring or similar. But when I got the car back, the power window control panel won't seat properly. I could use some help here. I don't wanna break the tabs.

Any ideas?

I hope you all have had a great holiday season so far and are staying healthy + enjoying your builds. If anyone in Austin wants to go crawling sometime, just let me know.

Welcome to IH8MUD. Be sure to check the heater Ts.

Even if they look good, chances are they will crumble when yo go to take them out. Go ahead and do heater hoses, IMO. I’ve seen the front hose from the radiator balloon up a short while after changing the tee and inspecting.

The YouTube video linked below was made for an entirely different purpose (professional installation of extended mirrors for towing). The point is that it does show how to remove and replace front door fittings.

You don't need to watch it all. Skim to these references which may provide some suggestions which answer your question about the Power Window control panel:

5:40 minutes: Removal of Power Window control panel
18:18 minutes: Re-installation of Power Window control panel

It is an Australian Right Hand Drive video of a basic 100 series Land Cruiser, so you may have to watch it in a mirror to turn it into Left Hand Drive 🤔 The fittings are the same shape, same clips etc etc as on the more elegant LX470:

The funny part for me was that I had purchased a set of Ts and all new hoses as part of baseline maintenance that included a new steering rack.

When I raised the engine to release a motor mount for the rack job, one of the heater Ts cracked open and started leaking coolant. I thought that I had really broken something serious when coolant started running from the engine.
I guess you could call that a "lucky break" since it was in the garage for all that to be replaced a few days later.

Absolutely, I went ahead and replaced those too.

Heart attack. Glad you were in the shop.

So I figured out that the metal bracket on the inside is bent/deformed. I'll need to push it back into place so the control panel seats properly. Thanks for the video! Came in very handy.

I snagged a print of @BenCC 's front cupholders. They look awesome. I didn't realize the OE cupholder has two retaining clips holding it to the center console along with the shifter panel. Pulling up on the cupholders was the easiest way to get access to whole thing. Anyway, I'm stoked. I can use the smaller inserts, OR the old butterfly clip. Thanks Ben!

LX looks good! I hope the cooling system is working well in those hot temps!

Product design! Nice, we just switched over to figma at work. Been loving it over sketch.
