I've done a lot of reading here and wanted to say I love the site.
TONS of great info. Most of my questions have been answered.
So, I'm in the process of selling my 05' 4runner sport V8 to get a LC. I've always wanted a LC and have known for years the super high quality that comes with the "Land Cruiser" badge.
I don't have any real specific questions, just wanted to introduce myself.
I'm looking for a 98-2000 LC or possibly Lexus. I want the V8 for sure as my dad's 91' LC was very underpowered. I especially want the V8 after driving a peppy V8 4runner for the past year and a half. I won't be doing any crazy builds, just oversized tires and maybe a couple inches of lift.
Since my 4runner already gets 15mpg, I'm not too worried about a slight drop in MPG.

I've already spent a few hours looking through the classifieds on here, lots of good stuff here!

Welcome, True my 1991 is slow pulling but it does the job pulling our Glastron 195 Sierra to Lake Ouachita. We will turn 300,000 miles soon and still have the same engine and transmission, got to love it. A v-8 is some where in the future. Have fun. MIke

Welcome to the board. Hope your search goes well.

Welcome 12guns, what part of Arkansas are you from? There was a nice black 99 with under 100k on Craigslist recently. I don't remember the city though.

Be sure to post some pictures when you get her!!

hi!
welcome.

I live in Russellville...not sure if it showed up on my sig or not.
Yes, there are some great trails around here. I have a cabin up on Big Piney Creek north of Russellville with unlimited trails of all styles-if you know where you are going.
I found a nice black LC up in Springdale. Carfax shows damage to right side pillars. I'm an insurance adjuster and as long as I'm happy with the repair job, not too big of a deal to me. It's a clean/clear title, just has an accident reported. The good thing is that is a heck of a negotiation point!
It's a 2000 w/ 176k miles. Asking 11,400, which they would have to come off of for me to bite. I don't prefer black, but it "looks" clean to me.

Don't tell them about the 20lb brown trout that can be taken on a 5wt rod and a dry fly either! Good luck in your search and welcome! I went from a 2006 4Runner to a 2004 Land Cruiser and couldn't be happier. Although, I did love the 4Runner too.

I grew up in Searcy...20 miles north was the Little Red, so I feel ya on the trout fishing! I used to tie flies, although never got into fly fishing very heavy.
Glad you were happy with the move I'm about to make. I think I will like the extra room, off road capability, ground clearance, higher quality, and so on vs the 4runner I drive now. One main reason is the seat in my 4runner is low to the floor. My bad back needs something taller, and that's a great excuse to use to convince the wife to let me get a Land Cruiser!

How "underpowered" are the 4.5 inline 6's? Much better than the old 4.0? I told myself I want the V8, but looks like there are lots of mid 90's Cruisers out there for sale. I don't need a race car, but is the V8 that much better??

We ummm might be a little biased. The 80 (91-97) is more capable off road in stock form than a 100, but in terms of comfort and day to day driving, the 100 wins.

For me, a 2001 or newer was the only way to go. We have 3 young kids that love camping/fishing/outdoors, so I wanted the LATCH system for their car/booster seats. The 4runner just wasn't big enough. I am happy with the 100's power, but I'm not winning any races either. We have a Honda minivan as well, but my wife is pushing for an LX470 for her and the kids. We really love my 04 enough to buy a newer LX and have basiclly 2 of the same vehicle in our garage.

The seating position in the 4runner was awful! It felt like a little car. The LC with lumbar and heated seats is just what my back needed! Although, I wish the heated portion of the seat went higher up on my back.

I won't be doing any hardcore off roading, just typical duck hunting stuff and going down to my cabin which is an old washed out logging road. Pretty much any stock 4x4 would do, so I'm leaning toward the 100 series to get the extra cush on the road.
I'll keep looking for now. I do have to sell my 4runner first unless a dealership gave me enough on trade in, which is not likely. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm sure I'll come up with other questions later.
As for the one in Springdale for 11,400, I agree it's a bit steep, but I also know they should be able to come off the price a bit. If I were satisfied w/ the condition I would not pay over 10,500 and would offer 10k to start. That's IF the body work was up to my standards, which can be pretty high LOL.

I do have one more quick question without searching....can I remove 100 series running boards w/o leaving a "missing" look? I see alot of the running boards match up to the fender flares, just didn't know if it would look ok w/ them removed. Now that I asked...I'll go search.

They belong in the garbage. They look 10X better without them
