Kinda new to the cruiser thing and am looking for some help! I recently bought a 1978 FJ 55...more or less stock and transplanted it to Gallup, NM from Pocatello, ID. I have big plans for it, but am not totally decided what those are yet. Anyone know of someone reliable (shop wise that is) to talk over some ideas (ie: enging rebuild, body work, possible vortec transplant) in the Gallup area? If not I am going to be in ABQ this coming week and was wondering who you'd recommend talking to about those things. Also, what would be a likely salvage yard in ABQ to pick up some bucket seats (make/model don't matter) that would fit in my Pig. I have heard good things about late model chevy seats and the like...any input is appreciated. Again...thanks for anything you can help me with. As soon as I get my Pig road worthy, I would love to meet up with you guys if I can get to ABQ with it.
Thank you
Jacob

wow. awesome 55.

have you thought of a diesel swap? there is a lot of information on doing 4BT swaps into 55's. your truck would be unstoppable!

Jason,
As many of the group will tell you, having a roadworthy Pig (or any other Cruiser) is not a requirement to come meet the group. There is a meeting here in Albuquerque on October 14th. That is a Sunday afternoon and details will be on www.hdcruisers.org Our meetings are usually on Saturday evenings; sometimes on a Friday evening. This one was scheduled for Sunday though.

We have a few FJ55s in the group though it seems none are running at the present time.

Welcome.

Some of us are doing a run next Sunday if you are interested. The location is yet to be determined, but a stock 55 will run anything the rest of us run...

Sorry--no help on shop information, but I'll be happy to rebuild your front or rear axles...

:grinpimp:

Cheers.

Pssssst, Mike, could I get the details, por favor?

Larry has a running 55. :grinpimp: I drove it around David's block before Larry bought it.

Jacob, nice piggy. Is it as clean as it looks in the picture?

Thanks for the input and even more ideas :) I will see which meetings or runs I can make it too, but my schedule has been a little wacky lately, meaning I have been working more than my share of weekends, and I am also going to be doing a couple mountain bike races on the upcoming weekends, but I would love to meet up with you guys.

Yes and no...it's very straight and runs pretty good now, but the previous owner had it rhinolined entirely without doing much rust removal or prepwork, so it's starting to peek through in areas...kinda has me worried what I will find if I dig too deep.

Yes, but that was when David had that pig. Now that Larry has it, I would bet a 6-pack of Keystone light that it won't make it to the next meeting. :D

Meeting Details:
Date: Sunday, October 14
Time: 5PM
Address: 12905 Deer Dancer Trl
Phone: 323.7739
For the new and prospective members: Bring the family and a dish to share. Bring your beverage of choice. Bring folding chairs. If the weather is nice we will meet in the back yard.

We will be driving in from Lubbock on the day of the meeting.

I guess it all depends on ones definition of "running."

I contend that a "running" vehicle is one that has lights, license tags, current insurance, and registration. The keys are handy and one would not hesitate to jump into it at any moment, day or night, and drive to the store to pick up another case of Keystone Light.

Furthermore, a "well running" vehicle is one that meets the above "running" definition, and one would not hesitate to jump into it at any moment and take a road trip of 1,000 miles.

And lastly, a "well running Land Cruiser" is one that meets both definitions above, and one would not hesitate to jump into the Cruiser at any moment and take a road trip to Moab, wheel for 4 days, and drive it back home.

But that's just me. :D

-Mike-

FYI, mine is currently "running." :frown:

What's wrong with Pristine?

You didn't hear it from me, but you gotta slap 'em around a little to make sure they stay in line. At least that's what I hear at work.

What's wrong with Pristine?

Just too much neglect. Time for brakes, rotors, gears, front axle service, cooling system flush, and a bunch of other things. Nothing that will keep me from missing the Moab trip, but she doesn't meet the "well running" criteria.

I guess this would be classified as something less than "running". I should have called Onur. Maybe he wouldn't have shown up 3 hours late making it impossible for me to finish the reseal in the time and day allotted to work on my truck.

Low blow indeed!!

;p

When it comes to cruiser wrenching, I show up on time and work as hard as I can until the job is done.

That is the truth brotha.

Jacob,

Good looking Pig by the way. Sorry about hijacking your thread. That Rhino-lining looks great in the picture but I can see how you're going to have a lot of hard work ahead if you try to repair what's underneath it. How do you even get that stuff off?

Don't worry. My father isn't on MUD so he'll never know my disappointment about this. He is a busted up old mechanic that's semi-retired with more aches and pains (and titanium screwed to his spine) than most people will ever experience. I guess I should cut him some slack. At least I have a backup beater to get to work with.

I can attest to this. But be warned if you set the start time at 8, that is when he will wake up! :flipoff2:
