Hello and intro to my ‘79 (1 Viewer)

Very happy to be a part of this fantastic community. I have learned so much from the talent here that I decided it was time to start giving back. As a father to three amazing boys and one brilliant and beautiful wife it is increasingly obvious that passing on what you know and teaching the next generation is a worthy mission. My 3/79 FJ40 was passed on to me from the original owner, an older gentleman whom I worked with for many years as an engineer. It was a local truck here in our little county in the PacNW since it was new.

The PO had two children who were developmentally disabled. One was severe, a very special girl. Her favorite cartoon character was Scooby Doo. Although the OEM floormat is nearly perfect, the Scooby mats are staying.

Thank you. This truck is incredibly well preserved. It was owned since January 1980 by a nuclear engineer who only drove about 5000 miles a year. I’m privileged to continue with its story. “Hey there’s something under the seat that looks like some sort of rigging. I have no idea what it was for so I just left it for you.” Wow...just wow...

I am very overdue in posting all of this. I have owned this 40 for a few years now and have performed a few updates and fixes which I will share with the community soon. I have traveled back and forth to Japan a great deal over the past 10 years and only recently have settled back stateside long enough to make some progress on refreshing and maintaining the 40. All paint is original except a few dabs of touch up that the PO did whenever he got a rock chip. The hardtop has never been removed. Headliner, floor mats and seat vinyl is original. I recently replaced the 41 yo seatbelts with new.

The bars and webbing were intended to replace the hard doors when they were removed. I still have mine, although I've never used them.

That sounds great. According to my ten year old its to keep the lions out . It wasn't just the existence of these under the seat that was amazing. It was also the matching baggie of OEM hardware for mounting them. And the fact that over 30 years of ownership by the PO, he never understood what they were for. Seems like most folks have "interesting-at-best" PO experiences, but I can only say amazing things about my PO. He and his family are fantastic.

Keep you from sliding off the seat and into the street at a time when seatbelts weren't worn by many. Maybe more important, keeps your hinges from flapping around when the doors are off.
