Hey guys just want to say hi from Rio Rancho.
I got an 80 right now that's recently blown and had a nice 40 had to sell a few years ago.
I used to live by the Glade in Farmington and know my way around NM fairly well.
Love to drive the mountains and play in the rocks.
I'm fairly new to all things mechanical but learning fast. Gonna be looking for a transplant motor like yesterday. Future for my 94 fj80 will be mostly trail rig and hope to build a trailor to haul gear.
I have a big garage and a beer fridge!
Take care

sounds like you'll fit in great around here. :D we can help spend your $ like nobody!

And I can help drink your beer. Welcome to the neighborhood

Just a little bit of useless Toyota knowledge: the US-spec 80-series Land Cruisers built from '93-'97 are referred to as FZJ80. The ones built from '90-'92 are the FJ80.

Hey Jeremy,

Glad you piped up here. I sent you a PM with my contact info.

Per your PM questions, I think Shawn has the cherry picker and engine stand but could be wrong. Feel free to use us as a resource for your current nightmare. This will save you money and headache. Also remember to use CruiserDan @ American Toyota for your parts at 25% discount.

Oh yeah, we're currently accepting new members application ;) I uploaded it to this message.

I think John F. is storing my engine stand.

Welcome!

Yep...I seen it...maybe even helped move it to the new house

and Welcome!

Thanks guys! I am still trying to source the parts for a good used head or motor and will definitely have pizza and beer to trade for knowledge when the time comes. If I don't say hell with it and part it out and get another...

checked out the head at Jeremy's yesterday and slapped a machinist straight edge on it. The middle part of the head is bowed to about 0.4mm, I think that was the number. The manifold surfaces are perfectly flat though. Not sure if the machine shop can work with that and along with Cometic MLS head gasket, the head might be workable.

Well, if I did my math right, that is .016". That seems like a lot to be off, especially since they usually only take off .010".

So if they take off .010, that leaves .006.. is that too much to torque flat?
Even with a thicker cometic gasket?

She's ready to come out, meanwhile working on wrapping and cleaning up harness and connectors and need to place some parts orders.
My new plan is partial rebuild with all new bearings and rings as well as taking the block to get cleaned/honed. As well as new donor head cylinder (thanks to Ali).
Replacing all the heater and vaccum hoses
And taking radiator to shower house. Sending injectors off to be bathed as well.
Got a Koso temp guage to install and help monitor the new baby.
I'm gonna add more I'm sure but these are short term plans;as Murphy introduces his ugly face I will try not to overreact!

Sounds like a good plan - please keep us posted on your progress...

And Good Luck!

Evan
