Josh & Jackson's FJ-40 on the news Thursday evening

For those who may want to see Jackson and Leslie as well as Josh & Jackson's FJ on TV, tonight on Ch 5 in Atlanta at 5 and 6 PM there'll be a news story about Josh. Ms. Pan also took footage of Josh and Jackson's FJ-40.
I'll post photos later tonight.

Sir,
As a member of the United States Air Force, I can not tell you how hearing your story has touched my life. I am in the business of bringing good men and women home and though I hear all sorts of things, I am never prepared when I hear news like yours. I am a patriot, a father, and a son, and we all owe your son our truest respect. My hat is off to you both. Your grandson is very much a lucky boy. Your son would be so very happy...

Josh & Jackson's FJ-40

Let me share this, Josh would have never left his FJ-40 as dirty as this. Evidently, someone drove it, a lot, while he was deployed. My first job - since I've already repaired the flat tire, is to hose it out and fix the rear door while I am waiting for the Chilton repair manual to arrive. The starter is in the drivers floor board and the carb isn't attached. Also, what apprears to be the air cleaner assembly is in the rear.

Leslie and Jackson are here and I'll get some photos of them in or near the FJ-40.

I really appreciate the words of encouragement and support. Last night ch 5 news did a segment about Josh, Leslie, and Jackson. It was nice.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving. We all have a lot to be thankful/greatful for. This is a great country and I have a great family.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

3 or 4 boxes of parts...

Josh and Leslie's stuff arrived from KS last night. It was delivered to TN. Leslie says there are 3 or 4 boxes of truck parts. She doesn't know what they are. I'm heading up there this weekend or next to bring the stuff back home. I'll keep everyone posted. I'm excited to begin the project. I know I'll need to be patient. I would at least to get it started. I'm waiting on the Chilton manual to see how the carb goes back on...

James, I know we are 3 pages into this but somehow I must have missed the first time it was posted.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for you and your family. To say, "Thank you" for your son's service and ultimate sacrifice just doesn't seem to do it justice.

Good luck to you. If there is anything that I or the Bayou State Land Cruiser Association can do for you please let us know.

I am not sure if anyone has told you bu tthe Chilton manual is incomplete on a lot of things. I have one for my fj62 but it is lacking. A Factory Service Manual has everything you will ever need in specific detail.

The 40 looks like its in OK shape, a few things here and there and it should be up and running. Please continue to keep us posted as we will remember you and your during this holiday season.

.

I didn't know about the Chilton manual. I saw one on a web site and thought it'd a good place to start. I'm sure this has been asked before...but...I guess I go to a Toyota dealership for a service manual?

SOR has them. A toyota dealership may be able to get them for you as well.

eBay has them from time to time. FSM is your friend.

Pop into your local Toyota dealership and get to know the parts manager and whoever else works there. Bring them a pizza for lunch or donuts in the morning. Your parts manager can be your best resource to locate parts. I would then try some of the vendors on the board like Mark from marksoffroad.com. He''l either have what you are looking for or know where to get it.

James: Wow.... Im not sure how you get through reading this thread. I am a father of three wounderful children and sitting here reading everything that the members of mud have written and the support that is being offered is not only amazing, but also sent to you for a reason. I am a firm believer in things that happening for a reason;( not always knowing that reason), but I believe that you found mud and the members of mud found you and this thread so that we can all be reminded what is truly important in life. For me it is no doubt my three kids kaylie 4, blake 2 and luke who is only 3 months, and my wounderful and supporting landcuriser building wife. I can't and don't want to think of ever loosing one of my children. I would just like to thank you for having the courage to pass on the life and legacy that he has left. There is no doubt in my mind that your son was and is a true AMERICAN HERO, and can tell "the apple didn't fall far from the tree". I dont know that I believe in the saying "God dosen't give you anything that you can't handle", however what i do know is that if there is something that you can't handle on your cruiser we are all here for your support. Let me know ill fly out to georgia myself and bring a crew. PS I have a brand new handle for you that I would like to send you, PM me and give the address you would like it sent. (here is a pic of blake working on my 350) best wishes.

Ditto on PM'ing the address.

I have a few things I'd like to ship on over to you as well after seeing your pictures.

I'm in Savannah and you are only 4 hours away... I might get a little cockey and attempt a drive on over in my 40.

But do PM me your address!

Hey, looks like Blake can give Jackson (and me too probably) a few tips on wrenching...
Thank you for your kind words and support.
I recieved the Chilton manual yesterday... not a lot of help. So...I'm off to locate service manuals.

This past Sat...

I took a good look at Josh and Jackson's FJ-40.
Here's what I think...(for those who don't know me - this is usually where I get in trouble)... there's a mud line in the engine bay and on the engine just past the exhaust manifold. I think the guy who was keeping it until Josh got back, buried it in mud/water. There wasn't any water in the oil (checked the dipstick). There's gunk in the starter. I'm going to drain the oil this week - oil change - and look for water. I'm also going to remove the plugs and look for water.
I'll keep ya'll posted.
(My family is scheduled to drive up to TN to spend the weekend with Leslie and Jackson - Josh and Leslie's stuff arrived from Ft. Riley, KS and she's having a hard time going through it all.)
I feel like a detective.

Man, it keeps posting in the wrong thread....guess I can't hit quick post at the end of the thread I want....hmmm. My apologies.

Very touched

I too am sorry for your loss. Your idea is perfect in many ways. I'm very touched that you would do this for your son...Maybe it did get in the right thread after all...the above posts seemed unrelated at first.

box of parts from Ft. Riley KS

I got back from TN last week and I finally had a chance to go through the boxes. Most of the stuff just looks like nuts and bolts. There are a few hydrologic hoses that must go to the Milemarker winch. I hope to move Josh and Jackson's FJ closer to the carport so I can begin the assessment. The day after Christmas we're heading back up to TN to visit Leslie and Jackson.
I hope everyone has a great holiday and a Merry Christmas.
