I have a 1974 FJ40, 305V8, HEI, yellow top optima, 10si alternator. when i try and start the truck the voltage on the ignition wire drops from 14 to 10v and thats not enough to start the HEI. if i jump the HEI direct from the battery it fires right up. whats the deal with this and how can i fix it? Thanks.

Sounds like you are still running the HEI through the ballast resistor. Bypass the resistor by tying the wires together.
