Hello all,

You can probably deduce that I am a newb by the title of this thread. Anyway, after 1 year of search, I finally found myself a LX470. I am beyond excited and can't wait to change it to a mild overlander.

After reading countless threads on advice for new LX470 owners, I decided to change the heater hose T's - boy am I glad I did as they were in really bad shape (see pic below). My question is, in the process of removing the old T's, a couple of the plastic edge pieces broke and fell into the hose and I was not able to retrieve all of them. Is that going to cause major issues?

Also, upon opening up the engine cover, I also discover some pink crust near the engine. Can anyone tell me what this is (I think it's coolant?) and what causes it? should I be concern?

Thanks in advance for everyone's input. I love this forum and I am beyond excited to finally have a 100 series in my garage and I hope I can contribute in some way down the line. Below is a pic of my new baby!

Congrats and welcome to the forum.

Good catch on the heater T's. They are so often overlooked and are the source of lots of headaches. From the looks of the pictures, the size of the pieces that broke off are pretty small and should not cause much concern. That said, give the age and depending on the service history a coolant system flush may be in order. That would be a good time to change out other coolant hoses, thermostat, and radiator cap (I recommend staying with all OEM components).

That is coolant on the throttle body hose connection and the hose and clamp need to be changed from the looks of it.

Thanks @94SRUNNER! Appreciate the feedback. Yes, will definitely look into getting the coolant system flush. How quickly do I need to change the hose connection and clamp? I want to take the truck on a 600 mile road trip. Is that going to be a problem? Thanks again!

I would take care of the leaking hose at the very least before your trip. When are you planning on leaving?

Hello all. I noticed a small coolant leak from the bottom of one of the tees. I replaced them with OEM parts and the clamps seemed tight. Any idea what’s causing this? Thanks I. Advance for your help!

Likely it is due to an old coolant hose that has cracked or stretched too far that it is not creating a seal with the old clamp. A Band-Aid fix would be a worm gear clamp. However the ideal fix is to replace it with factory components.

Thought I’d piggy back on your thread instead of starting a new one.

116k miles on my LX. I’ve owned since 107k. Don’t believe service history shows HT’s were replaced. Can anyone tell based on my current setup? Based on what you see, would you recommend replacement?

Mine looked exactly the same as yours before I replaced them - the inside was much worse than the outside. I would recommend changing them out if you are not sure if they’ve been done. Parts are cheap and it take a little bit of time. Once you are done, you are good for another 80-90k miles. Just hope you don’t run into issues like I did:)

Remove those hoses and T's as an "assembly" of the three hoses and the T together. Then the second assembly. Best not to remove the Ts from the hoses until that assembly is out of the truck. Then you don't risk breaking the T's and having the bits get lost into the system.

I always buy new hoses and new T's from Toyota. The spring clamps have never seemed to need replacing.

Note there are two different size spring clamps, IIRC.
