Heat Shields in PS Side Wheel Well

What exactly are those shields "shielding"?

I was attempting to fix the annoying heat shield rattle and the hose clamps just disentegrated, along with large portions of both shields.

Can I just leave these off, or should I give CDan a call and order up some new ones?

They shield the body and the tire

I took mine off in the process of trying to eliminate an annoying rattle (turned out NOT to be the heat shields ).

I've had them off for over a year now, and I haven't noticed any signs of heat damage to the fender or tire.

I think I wouldn't worry about losing the pieces of rusty ol' s***e.
