Headrest Rattle ('21 LC 200) (1 Viewer)

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the site so I apologize if I'm posting my question/concern in the wrong area - still figuring things out.

My spouse and I recently picked up two 2021 LC 200s, and we noticed right away that the front driver and passenger headrests have a pretty awful rattle. The rattle gets much worse as the headrest goes up, but some rattling can still be heard when the headrest is completely down. I was thinking the issue was unique to my vehicle until my spouse's vehicle arrived and started rattling as well. I'm debating on whether or not to take them to the dealership, but since this seems to be a common issue I'm not sure what all they can do.

I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced this issue (I've seen other posts related to seat rattles and some rattling on older LC 200 models), and I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a solution.

My passenger headrest rattled ever since my '21 pickup in May. I've been communicating with corporate Toyota (800-331-4331) after the dealer wasn't going to do anything about it, claiming most of them rattled like that and there was no fix. Corporate scheduled a Toyota mechanic to come to the dealer and assess. This occurred yesterday and they ordered a new passenger headrest and brackets which they say should be a 20 minute install when parts arrive. I'll post an update when the parts arrive and installed.

Any update? My 21 heritage has same issue. Annoying. I would love to get your input before trying home remedies. Mine won’t go to the dealer unless absolutely necessary.

The Toyota mechanic/tech rep came to the dealer and looked at the vehicle. They found a problem. They ordered I think it’s a bracket and a spacer or grommet that the headrest will go into. The parts haven’t come in yet even though it’s been over a month. Corporate called me to reassure me that they are tracking it and are waiting for the parts. I’ll post more when I know more. I’ll be able to post the part numbers that they ordered this afternoon.

I just got an update from my local Toyota dealer. Parts guy had to make a couple calls but here’s the latest. They are still awaiting the parts. Apparently these parts have not been manufactured yet and Japan is still working on that. I’m told there are other dealerships awaiting the same thing. I did not get a time estimate but that I should just keep calling back every couple weeks for an update. I’ve also attached a picture of the parts that they ordered for me.

Great. I have parts number. Sorry you are stuck waiting. Let us all know when it comes in and if it’s a fix. Hopefully they assign a reference or case number so we can all quickly benefit from your homework. I doubt a recall would be likely but i would gladly fork over a few bucks for fix.

Thanks! I just called the dealer with your parts number. They ordered the guides but held off ordering 600$ headrest. I told them to call me when parts came in and I will either schedule them to do it, or see if guides alone will fix it.
Glad it worked for you. I think Toyota may have to make a lot of headrest if this is the fix.

My 2011 headrests also rattle and I’m constantly pushing them all the way down.

The Lexus dealer ordered the parts, got them within a few days, and the rattle is gone, yay!

Just adding to the data…..had headrest fix per parts listed above. Rattle gone! My LC is so quiet now…never knew what the rattle did to interior noise! LOL

Any indication whether the parts are specific to the updated leather 16+ interior or are they internal to the head rest?

How did you engage the dealership to get the repair done? Did you provide them with a parts list? Did you have to go in first and have them inspect before repair? Glad to hear issue is resolved!

Perhaps try wrapping stems with Teflon tape?

They replaced the black “runner” inside the actual seat…where the metal poles of headrest stick into. So i assume that this applies to all years???

Perhaps try wrapping stems with Teflon tape?

I thought about this before the fix but I don’t want to interfere with the safety features of the headrest to prevent whiplash.
