I'm in the process of getting full repaint bids for my 62. This will be a glass out job and there's a few places on the roof that need metal work done, so the headliner will need to come out. The shops are recommending headliner replacement while they are there as the original is quite dirty and may crumble, tear, etc...

My 62 has the soft cloth "felt" headliner. I also replaced my sun visors with the OEM 70 series visors which have the vinyl covering on them. I much prefer this vinyl material over the cloth type, seems easier to clean and maintain.

SOR offers the cloth and vinyl type headliners but the cloth type looks like it is more gray. I thought the headliners were all the same universal color? The vinyl sun visors and old cloth headliner in my rig are a very close match, almost unnoticeable.

So, saying all that to ask this....is the SOR vinyl type a different color? Will it work in a later 62?
Are there any other vendor sources for replacement headliners??...or is SOR the only game in town?

(My 62 has the gray interior, if it matters)

I used the SOR vinyl headliner to replace the OEM fabric headliner. Purchased about 8 years ago. No issues. Easier to keep clean. Looks appropriate. Install tolerances are tight so be carefull during final placement.

Visors were reupholstered in matching vinyl for uniform look.

This is a good thread. Sub'd. I also have a grey interior, and my truck ('87 HJ60) came with the off-white vinyl, but I was thinking it would look better with the grey felt. But now reading this, maybe the vinyl is the way to go, plus it will match the sun visors.

Did the 62's with the felt headliner come with felt visors, or did all trucks use the off-white vinyl?

@Skniper , I haven't found another source of headliners, but I haven't spent a ton of time searching as I'm not there yet in my project. If I get a chance, I'll see what I can find and post it up if I do find something.

The 62's sun visors came covered with the same cloth/felt material as the headliner. So mine are mismatched now but the color is so close it's not noticeable. My visors were shot, esp the driver side.

Did you have to remove side cargo windows and windshield?

Any auto upholstery shop can do this job. Make sure to get extra clips for the bows. I had one done in my old 62 for about $250. At their recommendation I went with a darker gray than stock to hide dirt better.

I agree, I recently had a new headliner made and installed with a grey perf material. Use the old headliner as a pattern. It's not a difficult job for an experienced interior person. Bob, the guy that did mine just turned 80 at the beginning of August and still works every day in the shop. Old School is cool
