Does anybody know if headlight buckts are interchangable between early 70's cruisers and late model '79+ cruisers?

I know this is five months late but maybe helpful to other searchers.
On my 9/69 FJ40 the buckets were in decent shape but the retaining rings were bad. I have a parts 12/74 that I thought I would use the rings from. They don't fit. They have a different three screw pattern. The buckets from the 74 were bad so I could not use them.
I have a 1/79 that will be donating its complete drive train to the 69 FJ 40. The buckets and rings are goods so I'll use them. I cleaned up the buckets, Mounted them and put the lights in. No good!
The passenger light lense sits sideways because of the mounting (positioning) notches. I grab a 69 bucket and the 79 rings and guess what, they match.
The 12/79 rings will work on the 9/69 buckets.
The 10/74 rings will not work on the 9/69 or 1/79 buckets.
Not sure what years the changes are. Hope this helps. Jeff
